Some people fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of gifts. It's an expression of affection to another person. "Shall we not get gifts and just buy ourselves something every birthday." Ok, let's also drink cans at home alone instead of going to the pub.

Only the beta version does for now, but it’s coming.
But in the end the PWA version of PieFed is fine too (Interstellar wasn’t for me at all).
Never thought I'd post this but ...
Texas I'm proud of you.
I know WHAT it means to manually untangle, not even purposefully obfuscated, just optimized by the compiler code. Sure, writing code is a passion. Staring at the barely readable decompiled code for years... can be fun if you're autistic enough, but not really good investment of your own free time.
What they're really scared of are open weights models that are smart enough to automate even a small fraction of this task. Because if does, then there is no proprietary software anymore. But on the other side, we may as well lose FOSS too.
@pikesley FACT: Mealy-mouthed Cobblers are critically endangered nowadays after decades of overfishing and the use of their spleens to make handbags.
Look! This is what happens when you convince me to make waffles!
@ramona@app.wafrn.net
pretty shape! what's on top?
When in sixth form, used to have a challenge to see who could eat the most chewing gum stuck on the bottom of the desks.
@fesshole Your *friends* secretly switched theirs with new gum.
@alexisbushnell Congrats! HOW?! :o
@thegiddystitcher well quite! And it was quick too.
I got on the Dental Access Portal a few months ago when I first heard about it.
The people and institutions I believed in are justifying shooting up a synagogue full of people, murdering Jews in the streets of DC and Denver, kicking Jews out of schools, firing them from jobs, vandalizing Jewish places of worship, businesses and homes and more.
Do I care about other issues- sure I do. But I'm not going to celebrate this.
You talk about the neo-Nazi parties and how dangerous they are- but *this is Nazism*.
The people that demand that I say "Oh well yes both sides would march me to the death camps, but one set of Nazis are worse than the other set." are the problem.
I’m reflecting on all the different types of people who won as Democrats tonight. Different genders, different races, different ethnicities, different sexual orientations. Differences in style and, to some degree, in substance. But all recognizably and clearly antifascist, pro-democracy, committed to pluralistic constitutional democracy, rule of law.
That commonality should not be taken for granted. It is the bedrock on which we can build a more just and livable country.
You hit the nail on the head regarding the Democratic victories,
"... all recognizably and clearly antifascist, pro-democracy, committed to pluralistic constitutional democracy, rule of law."
These are the things that Americans want.
As I heard one commentator say on msnow, "It wasn't a blue wave. It wasn't a tsunami. It was an asteroid."
Programming isn’t for girls, they told me, and I didn’t care. Programming isn’t for humans, they tell me, and do you think I fucking care?
Even if DMCA and LLM restriction will kill off projects on github, wait for "going to torrent trackers to download pirated source code for photoshop that builds on linux and removes cloud dependenices" (quality notwithstanding)
Signal isn’t federated ^[1][2][3.1]^; it’s decentralized ^[1][2][3.2]^. Though, for all practical purposes, I would generally argue that it’s centralized.

Nothing about any of the protocols we’ve developed requires centralization; it’s entirely possible to build a federated Signal Protocol-based messenger, but I no longer believe that it is possible to build a competitive federated messenger at all. […] [interoperable protocols] [have] taken us pretty far, but it’s undeniable that once you federate your protocol, it becomes very difficult to make changes. And right now, at the application level, things that stand still don’t fare very well in a world where the ecosystem is moving. […] Early on, I thought we’d federate Signal once its velocity had subsided. Now I realize that things will probably never slow down, and if anything the velocity of the entire landscape seems to be steadily increasing. 2. ¶“Stuck in time”. “Federation and control”. ¶6. > An open source infrastructure for a centralized network now provides almost the same level of control as federated protocols, without giving up the ability to adapt. If a centralized provider with an open source infrastructure ever makes horrible changes, those that disagree have the software they need to run their own alternative instead. It may not be as beautiful as federation, but at this point it seems that it will have to do.
Good news!
A nice chap has just called to tell me that my BMW is ready, and that they will be returning it to me today.
This is especially welcome as I do not have, and never had had, a BMW, so it must be a gift!
I wonder what colour it will be.
@neil How much did you have to pay to find out the colour? 😂
Merci beaucoup
Wow. Just 13 minutes.
The UPSs alone probably would have been fine.
@neil When we had ours done, we were told that power would go off.
A couple of hours in I asked when they would be doing the power off, only to be told they’d already done the work and wouldn’t need to touch the power.
We do not have a UPS or generator…

For the uninitiated, if you were wondering what a Gordie Howe hat trick was.
@mike we will all go through walls for this kid. Not only is he spirited, he seems to be a strong leader, and is always just so grateful and passionate about being in the big game. May he never lose that.
OK now here are the same options but I'm asking, when limited to these choices, which of the following mattered most to you personally?
(you don't need to be able to vote in US elections to participate in either poll, I'm curious what everyone thinks about both.)
@futurebird This poll blows my mind because 'corruption in government' is way to mild for what your country has been experiencing. 'Treacherous government' in the literal sense comes a bit closer.
