You realize Reddit bans people too, right? The only difference between Reddit banning people and Lemmy.world banning people, is that Lemmy is transparent about it and gives you choices about it. On Reddit when someone gets banned they’re gone, there is no more so-called “completeness”, it’s just an illusion. But Lemmy has no such issue because you can choose who your admins are, you can join an instance that didn’t ban them.

Imagine if Reddit bans your friend, not as easy to ignore as Reddit banning a stranger, they’re gone and you have to leave Reddit entirely. On Lemmy if lemmy.world bans your friend, you can both just change which Lemmy instance you use to something more agreeable like lemmy.zip

But I realize you’re probably only here to advertise your own forum.

@ai6yr
I would link to OpenWRT Table of Hardware, but they've bit the slop-aid.

@Migueldeicaza @LabSpokane That is so cool.

Folks, I'll be out of a job at the end of this academic year. If you know of a tenure-track-type opening that might suit me, ping me! (I wouldn't mind hearing about postdocs either.)

Because PC language is taken seriously by many in both directions.
And really this topic touches on many real world problems with the idea of race.

As an aside/serious note, I think category would be a batter term than race or breed. It is less weighted down by historical issues. Even breed has an issue with the idea that they are only there to breed.

@lauren I did not realize that my dryer had related fumes. It's an electric dryer, if that helps. Also, I often leave clothes in the dryer for days at a time.

For some unfathomable reason, my wife doesn't think collecting disposable coffee cups is a legitimate hobby. I have a secret stash, but I worry that it will soon be too many to hide.

I read Cory Doctorow’s copyright thread and it’s got some great points, but I find myself thinking, “Gosh, wouldn’t that be nice if copyright remained relevant?” And honestly in the battle between AI and copyright, I expected AI to lose just due to the enormity of entrenched copyright interests (think Disney), but copyright lost that fight. Copyright and licenses in software development were once paramount but now it’s choose your own license via LLM.
