Motorola has announced their new high end flagship phone including upcoming official support for GrapheneOS as an OS option.
Motorola Signature 27 will be the first Motorola device supported by GrapheneOS. More devices will be supported in the future.
@GrapheneOS Will GrapheneOS be available at launch of the Moto Signature, or will support come at a later date?

Sure, but what they’re gonna do with that is the question. Like even if there is a profile on my Lemmy account, which ads are they going to send me? How? Where is that data going to be worth anything?
I mean I live in a country whose political environment was irrevocably changed because of Cambridge Analytica. And facebook’s algorithm is partly being blamed for the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar. It’s not really about you that I’m worried with, but for others in general.
Earth is missing a huge chunk of its geological record before the Cambrian period 538 million years ago, when complex life emerged. A new study suggests that the gap was caused by the rise and fall of ancient supercontinents.

@wjmaggos Oh sure, yeah, you're not wrong.
But until the billionaires can control what gets said on the Fediverse, they're not going to pay any attention to it, so they're not going to push anyone to it, ergo it can't "win".
So I'll just carry on enjoying it for what it is, and not what we might ideologically want it to be.
you don't give people enough credit. it only exists because people weren't happy with what the mainstream provided, and then convinced others to join. and fedi isn't even the same as it was before Elon bought Twitter. our acceptance of a small fedi also means accepting the rising negative influence of corporate social platforms on society and most of our friends and family. I want more but still enjoy it here and don't use anything else.
We are approaching the moment when Canadians can rightfully ask “Hey, why should I pay to be a subscriber to get access to your content?, I’m already paying for your content just by being a taxpayer- Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, National Post”
And:
Is it right for the government to be financially supporting media outlets that push a certain ideological perspective? Should a Conservative voter be happy that his hard-earned money is funding a handful of left-wing “private” media outlets? Should an NDP voter be content that her taxes are funding right-wing outlets?
The feds insist that they are providing “greater stability as the sector adapts to a changing media landscape.” But what’s their end game in terms of when they consider outlets to have “adapted”? Is that when the govt support stops? Why should the government, with no journalism expertise, be trusted to determine our industry’s landscape? And are they themselves contributing to the “instability”?
How many CBCs does the federal government want to ultimately create here?

@ben "dark souls fan game with no story" – »Gimme A [Souls Game] With Nothin'!«
@piikkisika someone looked at dark souls and went "there is a character hitting another character with a sword" and that was their entire takeaway from it
in the trailer on steam the health bars don't even move the first two times the elf protagonist character hits the zombies with the sword
@heidilifeldman Doubling down on racist, criminal fascism of the highest order.
@TheBreadmonkey @ThreeSigma Wasn't there some horrid trend a while back of like... view from inside the mouth of the world? Back when we had the tiny 888 cameras? Did I hallucinate that time of the internet??

@TheBreadmonkey This reminds me of a story I wrote. 🙂 https://photovotary.mataroa.blog/blog/i-stayed-at-the-haunted-carnival-too-long/
@shauna I mean, if it makes you feel better, there's men's teams in the same boat in the UK.
Because of sexism against men in the uk?
Four years ago, I wrote about my early years on computers, how it all started. It ends around 2001.
It focuses mostly on how I got into computers, into Linux, and a programming career.
I plan to continue that story this weekend, with one that focuses more on how my views evolved - how computers, FLOSS, and various communities shaped me, where I started from, and where I am today.
If 1993 me would look at me, he'd recoil in horror. So do I, when looking back.
The past ~30 years have been A Journey™.
I'm not even sure how detailed I want this story to be. There are some things better left unsaid. So maybe I'll focus on... not even sure what.
Originally, I wanted to do a kind of "license evolution", but... that doesn't quite capture what I want to talk about. It's more than licenses.
Yet, I don't want to dig too deep into hardcore politics and religion.
