Where they get absolutely roasted for their stance on AI 😄
Apparently, my daughter was given an assignment to use generative #AI to create a poster / cover for A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court in her English class. She took offense to this and asked if she could just do the assignment by hand or digitally using one of her #art apps. She was told no. So, my daughter decided to take a stand and not do the assignment. We support her decision completely. Asking someone who lives for creating her own art to use AI and refusing to accept anything else is inexcusable.

content warnings are still gray though
this is painful to look at
why would someone add more blue light to literally the entire page
whoa, just refreshed my mastodon instance and it's blue now

We are social animals. When the herd exhibits general acceptance it triggers something in our brains to do the same. It is why billionaires are funding data centers to flood social media with the opinions and leans they want the public to have.
I can’t remember the researcher name, but among the many studies on this topic there have been a swath done in public waiting rooms with confederates (the name given to actors working for researchers). This is a reproduced experiment.
Waiting room. Smoke starts to trickle out of the ventilation system. How long til someone leaves? Turns out, it’s more likely for the room to clear faster if the confederate gets up sooner and leaves. Then the standard cascade effect happens as the herd takes the hint and everyone leaves. In some cases, it gets to the point where the room becomes hazy and people don’t leave til the confederate initiates.
None of life is a single variable scenario, but it’s worth digging into the variables known to influence us as people.
Learned helplessness is another item I believe is more relevant today than at the time of the now illegal, though famous, experiments performed on dogs.

That’s the neat part: you don’t! You need to work a lot and barely survive so rich people can get richer and have more power and status, silly.

Found this the other day.
a review I can't leave and can't name (NDA reasons):
today I spent 3 hours at the dentist having a crown put on a molar, and the anesthetic wore off four times mid-procedure. Despite this, your API is the most annoying thing I've had to deal with in the last 24 hours.
@foone I'm just gonna assume this is about my shitty APIs because having someone publish a review about the spy cards online test suite zip file generator is pretty funny
Two critical PHP vulnerabilities, rated 9.2. Their CVE numbers leaked a day before the fix, and some governments took their own sites offline rather than run unpatched. Two weeks of PHP Internals in one episode.
This Week in PHP Internals, October 22, 2026: two weeks, 18 stories, about 23 minutes.

Slrpnk.net is down
Looks like our servers are on the fritz again. Usually we aren’t out of commission for too long. Hopefully we are back soon.
You know what rarely if ever has a security vulnerability? Gopher. My gopher hole
gopher://cyberhole.online
is almost certainly safe.
Think I'm gonna move more of my stuff onto the gopher hole. Put a web proxy up if I have to. Generate gopher rss.xml.
In the future, the web will be remembered as a failed expansion of Gopher, the one true network infosystem.
#gopher
Adding stuff to my gopher hole, to update in a bit.
Oh, I wanna put my retrocomputing stuff there.
Now I've spent the last hour fixing my Atari 8-bit disks so they don't have junk on them.
I feel ya, Bryan Cranston.
Yes, I think the PHP page-based approach makes it much easier to get started with on web applications.
It's also been an example of how design flaws in a language can be made up if there are LOTS of people who know that language.
Still haven't learned it myself, thuogh. 😅
@TerryHancock @ifixcoinops It's worth learning at least enough of it to've built a simple and basic webbed site just to say you've poked at it.
You don't have to change camps and swear loyalty to php. Just give it a poke and see what it feels like under your own paws. :)
at this point im honestly very surprised that no one has done the Picard lights meme saying “4”
#php
@PetterOfCats I’ve seen them floating around. Also the “4” issue is separate from the #php issue. 🙂
First place in trivia!
Final jeopardy wiped out half of the teams. BUT thanks to my childhood consumption of Wild Kingdom every Saturday, I knew that sloths are good swimmers.
Thank you Marlon Perkins!
@johnhattan HAHA! I thought a sloth would just sink...who would have known they could actually dome some swimming!?
I could never win, ANY JEOPARDY, not even Jeopardy for retards....i'm even stupider than that - but i can point out Australia on a map
