Well today's gonna be an interesting day for sysadmins haha, guess I'll sit back with my popcorn and SHIT I'M A SYSADMIN
"All patched! Well, that's me sorted! Job done!"
The camera zooms out to show that this speech bubble is coming from one stitch in a sock that is otherwise entirely made of holes, and parts of it are on fire
How we doing lads, mid-php2shell mental health checkin, are we coping
Yikes guys maybe hold the "PHP is inherently shit and so is everyone who uses it ackshually" hot takes until, like, Friday maybe?
Shouting at the guy up to his waist that he shoulda used a ball valve rather than a globe valve, is this helpful?
@ifixcoinops I'll counter the unhelpful negative energy by saying php is actually pretty great. Especially php7 and php8 but those major versions roll some pretty significant API breaks against php5 that aren't always tenable to work around to port a php5 application to 7 or 8.
The only reason, I believe, it gets so much attention is because it underpins so much of the internet, and is therefore such a huge attack surface that it inevitably attracts active exploits.
@ifixcoinops (I still strongly prefer working with Python over php, but that is a *preference.* php is still a great language and well-designed for its intended purpose, and I don't mind working with it when I need to stick my nose into it. But if I have freedom to choose which language to use server-side, Python is my first choice. php a very close second. node.js a very distant third, and only out of raw necessity.)
@dragonarchitect
There's a reason PHP was the original "P" in "LAMP".
As a Python scripter who never learned PHP, I have been a little jealous on occasion. And I've seen PHP projects whip Python ones over and over again in adoption. PHP development seems to just be faster.
@ifixcoinops
@TerryHancock @ifixcoinops Paws-down, the singular killer feature in php is templating as first-class syntax.
No other lang has this.
Python and node have to import modules for it and you're limited to working with whatever "language" the template module implements.
Php just lets you have the whole damn lang between the <? ?> tags.
Php's documentation is also a master class in good documentation writing as well and I think that contributes.
Yes, I think the PHP page-based approach makes it much easier to get started with on web applications.
It's also been an example of how design flaws in a language can be made up if there are LOTS of people who know that language.
Still haven't learned it myself, thuogh. 😅
