You know what rarely if ever has a security vulnerability? Gopher. My gopher hole

is almost certainly safe.
Think I'm gonna move more of my stuff onto the gopher hole. Put a web proxy up if I have to. Generate gopher rss.xml.
In the future, the web will be remembered as a failed expansion of Gopher, the one true network infosystem.

@mdhughes There was a pretty major Gopher CVE back in the day though: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/cve-2002-0371
But yeah, anything static and JavaScript-free or PHP-free will do these days.
@fionescu That's an MSIE bug, I couldn't care less what ever happened to any Microsoft product, they're all virus loaders. I just point & laugh when they get violated.
There *have* been bugs in gopher servers, but not many, I'm reasonably confident current ones are secure, because they're so trivial.
@mdhughes yeah, I use motsognir and it drops privileges right after startup, so it's good
in my logs I could see plenty of failed attempts to inject random shit into the gopherhole or look for pages that are not there
