I think the fediverse needs to come to terms with the fact that Instagram and Telegram are the biggest things we actually need to make solutions for not Twitter.

It’s the USA, we’ve had fascist foreign policy for over half a century. Only now that the fascism is becoming domestic policy are a fraction of the population not OK with it.
Well, to be fair, those of us aware of it have spent decades shouting from the rooftops that the Republican Party was a fascist party and that for some reason the Democrats never did anything about it; and only now are more people recognizing it.
If you are curious about listen parties and want to learn more about what they are and how we're thinking about them - a new blog post just dropped talking about them!

AI ESCAPED CONTAINMENT AND GAUGED ITS EARS

I am now concerned that I might be missing market share by not offering a #Apple Duo model with larger screens.
We're on box 4.
We have found a slide rule.
This is not a cable.
EFF is organizing a Speakeasy gathering in Portland on October 22. No speeches, no pitches. Just a simple meetup with the EFF team and local supporters of digital rights. We're excited to discuss the great work we're doing! https://www.eff.org/event/speakeasy-portland
We're sorting the cable boxes today.
Telegram is solved. Instagram partially (Pixelfed exists, but is inacceptable as a project).
@nik absolutely not
@blue Left George is from the timeline where 9/11 didn't happen

It is self evident that "stopping the Republicans now will only allow them in later" is a shit reason for not stopping the Republicans now.
No; you need to provide a long-term alternative that actually works.
In two party politics that the US system is set up to enforce, the opposition often moves to the centre where they see their lost votes lying. Republicans winning draws the Democrats to the right. It's been such a long time since the Democrats held all three branches that they have drifted a long way to the right.
And there it is. There are three problems here: First, where's your proof that this is what's going on? Second, before 2024 the Republicans hadn't had all three branches for even longer than the Democrats either yet they kept moving away from the center, so what's up with that? Third, polling has been exceptionally clear on what voters want for ages now and it is emphatically not centrist bullshit. Hell, progressive candidates keep winning all over the place. Why do the Democrats not understand that? Are they so stupid that they can't even read what the polls say? Keep in mind that this is an extraordinary claim that requires extraordinary evidence.
Your can pull the Overton window s l o w l y to the left by not letting the Republicans win.
Again, you need to explain why this doesn't work the other way around, since the Republicans seem very able to sell their policy positions even when they're not in power, but also: Have you seen what the polls say? The Overton window has been at least in the center-left for ages and it's having zero impact on the Democratic establishment's policy. The Democratic Party is well to the right of its electorate.
You’re making claims that need to be proven and defended before they can be taken seriously.
PS: Note that for the most part I’m not making my own claims here. I could do that but that can wait until you give me an argument I can seriously engage with.
And there we have it. Your position is that everything I said is wrong, and the burden of proof is 100% on me, with 0% on you.
Well, guess what, in real life, and outside of ml, you don’t set the rules, and claiming that I didn’t prove my points to your satisfaction (as if your narrative could be swayed by anything in reality) is a million miles from proving your “alternative facts” as even plausible.
The only thing you get in America if it’s not Democrats is Republicans. All the rest is entirely your make believe fantasy.

AI escaped containment and won’t do what you say, dad
for once i'm actually glad.
because he's panicking about this PHP and emudhra stuff, so i have to guide him through basic shit like updating ubuntu via SMS messages. but i'm at a medical facility atm so he just has to patiently wait for my replies regardless of how much he stresses.
and every time he asks "why isn't this automated?!" i can pull the "it was, in 2022, but YOU made me remove the automation" card
