"it looks like nobody knows how to pronounce helicorprion"
There are literally dozens and dozens of ants whose scientific names I have no idea if I'm saying correctly since, unless I can find the person who named them or some linguistic chain of custody it's kind of impossible to know.
I think the way it works is that those of us who talk about the ants the most win.
This is why ants are called "pogos" and "discos" and more ... most myrmecologists being fundamentally silly people.
@futurebird @StarkRG my plant ecology professor had a stock answer anytime anyone asked him how to pronounce a Latin name: “Loudly, and with authority.” RIP Bert Brehm!
My Lord tells me he and Sir H. Bennet, the Duke of Buckingham and his Duchesse, was of a committee for the getting of Mrs. Stewart for the King; but she proves a cunning slut, and is advised at Somerset House by the Queene-Mother, and by her mother, and all the plot is spoiled.
For a long time, the landing page of my blog said I'm a "strong believer in copyleft"1. It no longer does. There's something stronger than copyleft: the power of Filthy Human Hands.
And before I switched to using this particular blog, my old one had the same phrase since 2023, and "GPL zealot" before that, going back to 2010. ↩︎
ABC7: $11.4M shipment of Nvidia cargo stolen in California heist

@ai6yr so, what is that—3, maybe 4 GPUs…? 🙄
Goodbye cybertruck! https://www.cnbc.com/2026/11/06/tesla-cybertruck-texas-musk.html?msockid=11d8649b455b6ef4009a7c9244a76fa8
I wont miss it.
This is a bummer because I'm sure there are a TON of passionate and talented people at Tesla who just REALLY want to make cool stuff, but as long as the company is tied to Musk, and has to cater to his whims, we'll see that incredible talent wasted.
This company should be leading the way on the bleeding edge of EV tech, but instead it's being squandered on pet projects like this now-cancelled truck, and being leveraged for AI investor bait.
Make bad ass cars and sell them to people, Should be that simple. Ending the cybertruck isn't going to get them refocused on making better cars. Instead they want to focus on robots and taxis.
Now I wont touch anything Tesla until Musk is completely removed from the brand.
Indivsible's got an action up, with a suggested script that seems fine to me ... you can either use it as a starting point or customize it. https://indivisible.org/actions/tell-democrats-no-schumer-coronation/
Hello, I’m a constituent from [part of state], and I’m calling to ask [Senator] to call for an open process to choose new Senate Democratic leadership.
Voters showed up in seismic numbers this November to show they wanted leaders willing to hold the line for our communities – for a new era of Democratic leadership in DC.
We’re tired of the same corrupt back-room deals. If Senator [name] is, they must call for an open process to pick a new Democratic leader.
Actions like this make calling a bit more convenient, but also as the fine print says:
By providing your cell phone number, you agree to receive calls and texts about important updates, ways to take action, and information about events in your area from Indivisible, approximately 3 to 5 times a month. Message & data rates may apply. Reply with STOP to quit receiving texts at any time.
Opt-out. Boo!!!!!!
So I prefer to dial direct. (202) 224-3121 is the US Capitol switchboard and https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm is the Senate directory.
Van Hollen has said he isn't interested in the role himself ... he's contemplating a Presidential run, and Senate Majority Leader is too time-consuming to do on the side.

Around age 9, at a family get-together, an uncle 'informed' me that martini is actually the plural and the singular is martinus. Years later I offered that up as a fact to a girl I was trying to impress. Thanks uncle, you twat.
@fesshole hahaha am I your uncle?

Two things in @Vivaldi's latest browser update make me unreasonably happy
- **Paste and Go for multiple links:** paste a list of URLs into the Address Field and Vivaldi opens each one in its own tab
**- Copy Sanitised Link:** removes tracking parameters from a link before it is copied, so shared links carry only the page itself
@pixmo thank you for letting us know, nothing makes us happier than users liking the features we spend time on!
Just when we thought doing CVE security releases is our life now, we're proud, excited and relieved to offer you Routinator 0.16.0 ‘Full of Grace’.
Some options are now enabled by default, like ASPA and BGPsec, as well as strict validation mode because the Internet is a more dangerous place then ever.
We also added some new features, such as Resource Signed Checklists (RSC, RFC 9323) and SLURM v2 which adds filtering and adding ASPA assertions. And, a new UI!
https://github.com/NLnetLabs/routinator/releases/tag/v0.16.0
And we have more #RPKI news, because Krill 0.16.2 ‘Wait Until Your Mother Hears About This’ was also released on what you can call a classic NLnet Labs release-Friday.
This release deals with naughty child-CAs who keep requesting new certificates. Now, Krill doesn't re-issue child certificates if none of the content has changed and the current certificates are still valid for at least a few more (configurable) weeks.
@silvermoon82 he is rent seeking, and probably making the eggs worse in the meantime (extra handling giving it extra opportunities for breakage and spoilage, not tracking the age of the eggs or health of the chickens, etc)
@fluffy
"Rent seeking", that's the term that's been eluding me, thank you.
That's exactly it, the parasite class wants to collect rent on everything, forever.
NOW, I KNOW WHAT YOU MAY BE THINKING. "WELL, IF YOU HOVER OVER THOSE ICONS, ARE THERE TOOLTIPS?". NO. NO, THERE ARE NOT. THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY DO IS HURL YOURSELF INTO THE VOID AND CLICK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS
If there are no tooltips, the blame should be put in QEMU. There is no way to justify not putting a tooltip in a purely graphic button.

@scy LogiLink AU0032 has 4 ports (that one I have actually used for very weird lab equipment, it works very well), LogiLink AU0033 apparently has 8 ports. Not sponsored 😅
@martok But these are RS232, not at TTL.
This week, we discuss election outcomes and code as a human endeavor.
I hate balloons. Very soon after my kids birthdays I stab the fuckers and bin them. Where's you balloon? It burst.
Maybe get over yourself and let the children enjoy their balloons.
