I just noticed a new way in which AI scraper bots work. A page is requested from a bot at a given IP address, then an instant later a swarm of other bots from a plethora of different addresses download every link that's in the page: images, media, connected pages, etc... then there seems to be a timeout and the cycle restarts with the linked pages.
Why do I know these are specifically AI scraper bots? Because as you know they've been written by the most brilliant minds in the tech sector, and are super-optimized and not wasteful at all. Which is why they re-scrape the same article posted 2 years ago 130 times a day, every day of the week, for months on end.
The dang thing is over and they keep texting me!
@futurebird Is he asking you to pay him off so he’ll cancel his run for speaker? That might actually get me to donate
Marcy Wheeler offers some pushback on the “dump Hakeem Jeffries” movement. She’s a sharp observer who’s been at this for a long time, and I think her logic here is sound, even if I don’t agree with every single point.
@jalefkowit I'd love to hear what she has to say about Schumer too.

I’m just glad I finally have a test showing the central apnea which I’ve always known I’ve had but which is only intermittent.
They also claim snoring but at-home snoring detection things never turn up for me and they pretty much forced me to favor sleeping on my back, when I’m usually a side sleeper.
@natevw unfortunately "presumptuous BS" is the state of all software these days and I hate that I'm stuck with macOS for my music software because I'd really like to be able to just switch back to Linux as my daily driver at this point
like, Linux is full of AI code at this point but at least the UI still gives you a choice of it being user-centric instead of capitulating to "AI is the future, you must submit to the machine"
@fluffy this isn't your fault or your problem but the enslackification continues to escalate — now using notification badges to advertise features — and I needed to vent a little to a fellow human, sorry 🫣
Well would you Adam & Eve it. Another #bandcamp #BandcampFriday #friday is nearly upon us and I ain't got nothin' new...
But all the old stuff is FAB if you haven't got it yet #fediverse !! 😁
@alisynthesis
Done in the same vibe as "Pig", but a documentary. Call it "Hole".
Note: The above posts are "joshing" and not meant to be interpreted as something I think is a good idea
@mcc this isn't completely ridiculous. Many people do take the high level language analogy seriously and check in the prompts. I wonder how GPL applies to obfuscated code (are you allowed to deliver minified, obfuscated js without the original when the original is based on a gpl'd product? I'm guessing not). Sufficiently sloppified code is indistinguishable from obfuscation.
@georgetakei If he can't read, someone can be provided to assist him with his ballot.
First look at the generic Team Canada and Team USA jerseys the IIHF is mandating the teams to wear at the Women's World Championship starting tomorrow

Occasional reminder that Nicki Minaj cannot vote in the US. Neither can her husband or brother.
- She isn't a citizen
- Her brother is doing 25 - life for committing the GOP's favorite pastime with a child
- Her husband is a registered sex offender
The latest MAGA spokesperson, everyone!
Got the results of my sleep study back. One obstructive apnea event, one central apnea event (which I distinctly remember waking up from), not reaching the threshold of what my insurance considers needing treatment but they want me to consider CPAP anyway. But CPAP didn’t help me the last time either. There’s also the possibility of a mouth appliance (but I already wear a bruxism night guard) or a surgical option to help with the obstructive part, but it’s the central thats been the issue.
I’m just glad I finally have a test showing the central apnea which I’ve always known I’ve had but which is only intermittent.
@alisynthesis starring Scarlett Johansson as “Nic Cage”
@Moss 🤣
(it's not her fault, we remain friends. it was just a situation we couldn't productively navigate together.)
@ariadne has anybody actually verified this? somehow nobody has shipped a PoC despite it needing, theoretically, literally one command line
@tusharhero Yes… ha ha ha… yes!
@mcc @tusharhero This one in particular is very funny, since Eli got mad at @technomancy for sumitting the Human Emacs document / petition, and here Eli gives a perfect argument for why we can't have vibecoded software in Emacs https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2026-11/msg00084.html
Ah, this is my *jam*. An empirically informed argument for more distributed energy on the US grid.
"Relative to a status quo outlook, expanded DER deployment could avoid over $600 billion in cumulative power system costs through 2050 (inflation-adjusted, undiscounted)."
