Holy shit.
This guy takes a couple of minutes of audio from a security camera anywhere in the US, with no clues from the video whatsoever, and finds the exact spot where it was recorded.
How?
By correlating the Doppler curve sounds from two almost inaudible planes passing by with public ADS-B flight data.

I think this is the #OSINT video of the year.

@JulianOliver "US would never, ever accept having its public/edu/mil/gov sectors hosted on foreign owned infra, lest of all abroad. Even that of a close ally."
I like the thread, but you make a kinda big mistake here. True that FedRAMP High or DoD IL5 doesn't exist (yet) on foreign soil. I've had to deal with this many times over.
However, that's more a novelty exception than any kind of rule. Every single overseas base and embassy runs on host-nation telecom and power. Just look at DISA's Stuttgart office buying commercial leased circuits for Wiesbaden and Ramstein from the German carriers.
I could give a huge long list of the US depending on foreign soil and infrastructure but the point here should be something else.
Google (like Oracle) has swung hard into being a US military/intelligence contractor, meaning a front for Israeli intelligence, operations in Tel Aviv. Look up Unit 81 (I know them personally and I wouldn't give them the time of day let alone a state document). No joke, Merz is outclassed and played like a fool, as Germany foolishly hands national secrets to Israel.
@flyingpenguin Fair point. Perhaps I ought to have been clearer, 'server and PaaS/cloud infrastructure' .
For sure you can scrape L2/L3 on the wire, and yes carriers are a big part of sigint picture, but nonetheless that's skinny pickings next to the bounty of vast storage clusters of actual intelligence data, esp in this era. Arguably incomparable I reckon.
Saw this coming in 2014. If you want more info I made 2 Select Committee presentations: https://davelane.nz/tppa-submission and https://davelane.nz/tppa-select-committee-presentation to Nat'l and Labour-led Gov'ts respectively (but not respectfully - oh no! Even got a rise out of Nat'ls David Bennett during mine when he looked up from playing games on his phone when I said 'I will consider MPs supporting this legislation traitor to NZ'. He didn't like that. I was right, though.)
I think most MPs, sadly, had no idea what they were signing or through what completely broken, top-secret process - recall we only heard about the contents of the TPPA agreement because of *Wikileaks*. Our Gov't was AOk with keeping the text from NZers, including MPs. Only negotiators saw it (I'm pretty sure at least one or two of them are up to their armpits in Atlas Network). I think the MPs were naive bumpkins who took Groser & Parker's word. Dodgy as.
Comet PanSTARRs and Rainbow Meteor
Explanation: Did this meteor come from that comet? Probably not. Although many meteors do originate from comets, there are thousands of comets that have visited the inner Solar System recently, and matching meteors to them can be tricky. And to be clear, the pictured comet is far behind the streaking meteor. Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) was captured from Hautacam, France in April when the giant space iceberg sported impressive ion (blue) and dust tails. Sand-sized rocky debris that enters Earth’s atmosphere typically appears as meteors, while the colorful foreground streak here may indicate a complicated composition. This month three notable meteor showers will reach their peaks. Over the next few days, the Southern Taurids will be reaching their apex, while the Northern Taurids will top out about a week later. Both originate from Comet 2P/Encke. November is most famous for the Leonids Meteor Shower, though, which originates from Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle and will reach its crescendo in about two weeks.

there, the "before" tilted to get somewhere close to the "after" in ratios and size and put on a blank white background
Now that I can read letters and numbers on the chain I can see a few things:
VIA - Japanese certification
HG - HyperGlide. The sprockets have ramps on them to aid shifting.
ID or 1D - One of the links looks definitively like 1D, another one looks definitively like ID, neither show up in searches
NARROW - seems pretty obvious
Why is the new Mastodon web interface obsessed with showing me a blank column on the right? My four column layout is now a six column layout that doesn't fit in the window and also two of them are blank! This is horrible.
Here is a completely normal and rational thing for the interface to do. When you click the "like" button, scroll the window and move the post you just clicked on away from where you were looking! Then move it again a second later without any further clicks! "Yes, you are absolutely correct, that is a thing that you wanted and expected."
Currently trying to figure out how to provide a sensible default configuration when there's no embedding.
My first idea was that I'll look at argv[0], and look for the assets in the parent directory's share - which kind of works when iocaine is installed, as I can control the layout. It doesn't work when ran with cargo run, because then the parent dir would be target.
So I'm thinking... what if I had search paths? As in, if no config file is specified, iocaine would search for it in:
./iocaine.kdl./etc/iocaine.kdl{dirname(argv[0]))}/../share/etc/iocaine.kdl/run/iocaine/iocaine.kdl/etc/iocaine/iocaine.kdlAnd any node in the configuration that accepts a path= property, would accept multiple, and iocaine would find the first one that exists, and would load that.

This came off the new project bike, the one with the chain I've been working on between other stuff today. It originally had a black plastic outer coating, but that was dry, hard, and disintegrating; I literally peeled it off with my hands. A good scrub later and here we are.
I kinda want to paint and I kinda want to do that tool grip stuff that I used on that pair of wire snips last year. I think the thickness of the goop would be good, and! it comes in spray can form now! Which would be very nice, since I wouldn't have to use it once and then throw the rest out.
I could do that pickup-truck-bed appliqué but those are all black and I'm trying to put colour back into bikes.
But if you know other approaches I'm interested.
@moira Powder coating?

Tegels?!
@M0YNG @ret @neil My use cases are external, but in a rental so I can’t do anything external. Indoor cameras against the window with mic off and ability to disable completely. The back one covers us using the garden so gets switched off when needed.
I do agree that generally I find internal cameras odd!
