@mattwillis @JessTheUnstill you rang?
I was once at a graph theory country where there were fisticuffs! A man was punched!
(and he was my ride back to the city so I really needed him to come to after)
@futurebird sounds ... graphic
"you dressing up as anything for Halloween?"
"I'm a lefty liberal lesbian with both boobs and a brain. I'm already something over half the population find terrifying. Why would I need to dress up ?"
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-probes-toronto-shooter-for-hire-impenetrable-phone-graphene-os/ is a very fair and balanced article. They did proper research and talked to experts.
That's entirely unlike nearly all of the coverage by the media in Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands. In the few cases we were asked for our perspective, nearly nothing we said was included. They acted as sycophants for the state and did not challenge or verify their claims.
Why is it that nearly all the western European news coverage is sycophantic?
@GrapheneOS
Yeah, pretty balanced article. That’s something new. Although the question remains at the end of the article: is it breakable or not?🫣
More "boring" service providers who are content with a modest profit margin and slow organic growth, please. I don't even care if the UI looks "dated" and new features take a long time to be built. Traditional boring bare metal, only add new customers when you have capacity to support it, whatever.
A company of 50+ year old tech veterans who have been laid off and left behind from age discrimination just looking to keep the bills paid until retirement.
Run it like a co-op, like a little credit union that isn't looking to expand quickly, just serve their little niche of the community.

I'm adjusting.
Most of my life I've tried to be the glue that held our family together. My mother, siblings, kids, grandkids and husband have always known that I would find a way if there was a way to be found to overcome whatever and support them no matter what.
My house was never fancy but was always a comfy, safe refuge.
How lucky I've been.
Today one of my grandkids moved away from California so he he can be who he wants to be. Humboldt has little to offer young folks.
I always knew this time would come. As long as I can I will be here just in case.
Getting old is bittersweet.
Might be quiet for a day or two.
Ah shit if this traffic jam isn’t mutable I’m never getting out of here
There is no such thing as "ethically using AI". AI is trained on stolen data. AI is destroying the environment and communities. AI is making us stupid. Use AI if you want, just don't pretend you're doing it in ethical way.
There's no good reason to use an AI image generator, and so I will not be sharing the image I'm about to describe.
That being said: the former director of our food pantry who is 80 and an absolute curmudgeon has done an AI rendition of himself as riffraff (or at least the character is labeled riffraff and has long stringy hair. The rest of the outfit is frankenfurter's lingerie) and his dog (!) as Magenta, and I nearly choked when I saw it.
Allen is a regular at our cafe, and just generally a grump. This is the funniest thing he's ever done. I am trying to adjust to a world where it's possible for an 80 year old man to casually post an image of himself in rhps, and, and I cannot.
@ajroach42 I mean… you know everyone in RHPS is now in their 80s or dead? Old people were the core audience.
kart racing sim
oh, hey, I am still alive.
#Blender tell me... is there a way to paint displacement maps onto an object (i.e. a textured brush in sculpt mode) without majorly warping the geometry beyond whatever the displacement would add?
Like, I guess painting a displacement map material over the mesh, but with the immediacy of using a textured brush

It’s raining! Almost a 40-year run, dang
@lynnandtonic Same here! Well trying to.
Is everything in the Netherlands in glass? LOL. That would mostly be destroyed in an earthquake in California.
(we'd lose a lot of stuff we have canned here 😬)
ps. pasta sucks for disasters and camping, takes forever to cook and requires extra water, unless you are willing to human sump the water as a valuable resource. (which I recommend). i.e. don't use it to cook your pasta and then dump it out, that's all that extra water you just wasted... use it as soup.
Minor in the face of disaster, but —pasta was invented in fuel poor regions, the restaurant method of boiling it in an enormous pot of water is for restaurants. You can cook it in just enough water to cover and the starchy water melds anything you’re turning into a sauce.
Transphobes:I won't vote for you because I hate trans people
Democrat: oh ok...I also hate trans people? Will you vote for me now?
Transphobes: lol no
@leftylabourtech and, because many governments have similar needs/requirements, collaboration makes it cheaper for everyone. Alas, IBM consulting is all over GC.ca, and they own RedHat, so...
@mcr314 A number of governments in Europe are working on a variant of NixOS which I understand is good for large identical deployments as one might have in the public sector.
someone in the spy cards chat pointed out how great these file sizes are
I have reached the stage in parenthood where my kids have social appointments that extend past my bedtime. This is Awful.
Friendly reminder to my American friends: after Halloween, you get a chance to throw out some of your bloated, orange pumpkin(s). Compost or jail, the world is watching.
