upsides and downsides. I agree the gray text on dark gray background is bad. and the buttons below the posts comments, there is too much in one place

#toronto #election preaching to the choir: encourage your friends to vote in the municipal election. 222k ballots were cast in advance polls.
This is the level of decision making that most profoundly affects our daily lives, modulo Doug Ford’s special attention to the city that did not elect him mayor.
The two leading mayoral candidates are polling within margin of error. Their existing relationships and voting histories on city council are significantly different.
In my ward, the top 3 candidates are (by their materials): incumbent working for you, law and order, social supports and root causes. My own choice would have been easier if we’d had ranked ballots with transferable vote.
I continue to hate FPTP.

Good Sunday, Fediverse! A colleague in IRC just told me that NetBSD encrypts by default the swap partition (vm.swap_encrypt=1). Placing swap on CGD would be an overkill in terms of performance.
Just updated "NetBSD 11 from scratch" with this and other tips! 🤗

NEW: Officer Jaron Alexander says he didn’t come back to Ingram, Texas, to help deport his neighbors.
But one year after joining ICE’s 287(g) program, his department has handed over the equivalent of 10% of the town.

That guy is trash. How could he possibly repay those families?
Immigration must be reformed

But I learned that for me it’s better not to use any tricks or shortcuts to learn the names because they’d backfire. If I had 70 names to learn, and similar looking students in different classes, at first it helps narrow down the possibilities: that’s either Jen or Beth. But then they’d both get stuck at “either Jen or Beth” long after I’d learned the other names. This was annoying but tolerable if Jen and Beth didn’t know each other or know why I was mixing them up.
I always keep my cards grouped by class.

Why some people (including me) are spending more time on Twitter
Momentum seems to be shifting back to Twitter/X, and I have been feeling it too. I don't love it for all the obvious reasons, but it is the best place to keep track of what is happening in AI
I understand the need to use the bad places. but the arguments for being there never amount to more than that's where the audience is or the important conversations are happening there. which should mean that all the people with followers there who admit that they'd rather not be, could join together to move the conversation and their many followers to networks that are free of those problems. that can't be bought and changed someday. people are there for them, not the platform itself.

this has been a very bad week in Canadian politics for anyone who isn't in power, is in a minority/marginalized or vulnerable community, gives a shit about their neighbours and environment, or, you know, still has any shred of human decency. wtaf.
(can anyone confirm my suspicion that this plan is doomed anyway because no support for MediaTek MT792[12] wifi cards?)
@zwol I'm ready to order Edimax N150 USB WiFi adapters by the dozen. It's the easiest way around this problem. I have one, and it's a lifesaver.
