Fediverse
I do have to disagree with this post, I think it's you who need more research if you really think that kickstarter suggests they haven't heard of the fediverse.
Haven: Better Instagram & YouTube, to Stop AI & Surveillance
Social media that prevents Big Tech & AI from stealing your art, your biometrics, and your privacy. We're replacing Insta and YouTube.
The fediverse does NOT prevent big tech and ai from stealing your stuff. it actually makes it easier. They just need a covert shell instance to subscribe to stuff and the fediverse hands everything to them for free, including your votes.
I'm all for the fediverse myself, but that's because I don't personally care about this that much. If I did, I wouldn't want to be here where we're the most vulnerable out of anywhere.
Oh hey, I have images now!
Here are my two most recent finished zines, Books That I Read in 2026, Part 1 and Gender Machine Broke.
Also a couple of my newer button designs.
Come see my stuff and meet me at Zine Dump at Cecil Community Center in Toronto, November 8th from 1-6pm! First hour is masks-mandatory, I'll be masked the whole time.

He did the research. This is no different than Truth Social or Gabb, where off the shelf platforms already do all these things.
If this guy hosts it all himself, and doesn’t federate it, then that’s literally what already exists out there. He doesn’t want to leave the walled garden. He wants his own walled garden, and for you to plant flowers there.

@js I've taken all the php servers offline until details come out.
Oh my god this zoo has a livestream of a momma cheetah and her five cubs
@malte if any of that caching is going *through* php-fpm in any way, that's apparently vulnerable
@rysiek all php-processes are stopped 🙏

I think someone didn’t do the research neded. (sic)
You certainly didn’t.
- Plenty of artists are worried about AI being trained on their data. No fediverse “platform” protects from it.
- Plenty of artists want to have a way to monetize their work. No fediverse “platform” does it. The one that did try to do it (sub.club) shut down for insufficient interest
Lots of ambiguity in the pinyin->hanzi direction especially if you don't write tone markers (infuriatingly google translate has always supported only un-toned pinyin), very almost none in the other direction. Like you could develop an entire speaking vocabulary and only have 0 or 1 hanzi with ambiguous pinyin
I get up just before 6am daily to give Mom her first medication dose. She rests until getting out of bed at 8am, when I take her first daily vitals, log them, give insulin & rest of the morning meds. Then, I make breakfast.
It's cold in the mornings now. My morning routine now includes lighting the woodstove, early morning, to warm up our home before Mom arises.
Asher & I are enjoying the fireside warmth. I'm reading a book while my eggs are boiling.
Maybe we just turn off computers this week until the dust settles.
We're actively doing updates so you may see some disruption.
If you are running anything PHP, now would be a good time for you to also do updates.
This is the #PHP exploit, in the Wall Street Journal:
AI Just Found a Bug That Puts Up to 70% of the World’s Websites at Risk https://www.wsj.com/tech/cybersecurity/ai-just-found-a-bug-that-puts-up-to-70-of-the-worlds-websites-at-risk-fd0902ea
GNOME 51: a look at everything that changed!

Oh, and some more info about all of this is now available: https://diff.wikimedia.org/2026/10/21/impact-of-php-vulnerabilities-on-wikimedia-tools-and-services/
These new PHP vulnerabilities are a big deal, y'all. My admin tells me in-the-wild exploitation was seen earlier today. There are apparently several proof of concept exploits floating around that let you send arbitrary commands to the server.
