Quietly waiting for more companies to discover that "AI-free environment" is the magic phrase that will attract the smartest, most dedicated experts in the world to come work for you. We don't often get magic phrases with zero downsides but we've got one right now and you can just, you know, use it
Maybe this was already talked about by everyone and I'm just slow, but what da hell is this AI-ass graphic 404 Media is using here? Not from the cited source and not captioned with a citation, so I assume they made it?

@jonah People in the article comments are speculating that it was provided to them by NASA or whoever they spoke to for the article, but everyone still wishes they'd declined to use it.

I feel ya, I am still trying to figure out what an ActivityPub is.
I managed to get my gamepad to work, so let's poke about and see what Tower of Gold is like. https://twitch.tv/

Am making a good-faith effort to work today but all I want to do is roll around in relief. Let me have just one day of celebration, just one.
@lilithsaintcrow I got *bugger-all* done yesterday evening (other than drinking celebratory port) until quite late at night. I've decided that today can be administrative work -- the sort of thing that isn't harmed by going to refresh some sites for news -- and the creative stuff can again happen after everybody else has gone to bed.

LOL.
my partner is greek, so i regularly have the discussion "if the temp in C doesn't have a negative sign and 2 digits, it's not cold yet". (i spent high school/college in IL).
i also remember when i was in the service in DC, my sponsee had just moved up from a lifetime in FL. somewhere around mid October, he came into work complaining that he'd already had to break out his heavy winter coat. the temperature was 50F/10C.
turns out his "heavy winter coat" was a nylon windbreaker with a thin flannel lining body but not even the sleeves... our Lt told me to take him out at lunch and help him buy a "real" winter coat.
Sat on the bus next to someone I had never met before who just casually told me "Oh, it's probably not going to sound interesting to you but my presentation going to be about [reversible computing]"
@neauoire one of us! one of us!
These maps (and checking intersections/etc.) are so useful... (to fix problems, plus... to not die)

I ordered some A4 prints and some packing tubes. I want to try selling some of my photos (and looks like it’s going to be by hand).
@Gargron I guess you mean photos taken BY you rather than photos OF you. Unless you plan to turn Mastodon into OnlyFans 😆
@futzle How embarrassing would it be to be the one Democrat who lost their seat*.
*or whatever USians call them. Commissions. Florbs. I don't care.
@abstractcode TBF every district in Texas was redrawn*, so "incumbent" is a bit handwavy.
* Guardian map is symbolic and doesn't really show proper levels of Gerrymandering.
If you thought Google targeting ads was scary, have you considered the possibility of Google targeting missiles from space?
Maybe they are getting a nice bundle deal with exclusive rights to livestream on YouTube the DoW’s next public executions.
***Interpretation: all these companies say people are adopting AI agents to run their life, but we can't find anyone doing so. Anyone out there?
@ai6yr I believe that the only ones adopting AI to run their lives are in fact AI creations.
News: Senator-elect Peggy Flanagan calls for new leadership of Senate Democrats

@mastodonmigration
Amen!
I had a postdoc in my lab who moved here from India. Starting in October he would say most mornings 'Correction, today, is the coldest day I've experiences in my entire life.'
He was a hoot.

What did I say? You connect appliances to the internet, this is what you get. You should not be able to hack yoghurt.

"Imagine being an employee at a company that has NEVER turned a profit and showing up to work in these shirts."
This caption, shared to 122K followers, is intended to mock the WNBA players wearing “PAY US WHAT YOU OWE US” tees.
Here’s why that logic is not just flawed but deeply rooted in misogyny and ignorance about how business actually works:
Mediocre, unremarkable white tech dudes have made careers off companies that have lost billions before turning a profit, if ever.
