@ai6yr don't under estimate the number of people working for tech companies that don't have their own computer... or it's so old (they didn't upgrade) that they use the work one for everything but maybe gaming.

I was wondering if any of the writers here on the Fedi have tried Hugh Howey's (author of the “Silo“ series) writing app "Neo" and what your thoughts on it are?
So far I like it. It does have a way of encouraging you to continue writing more so than your average text editor.

@davidgerard It was definitely one of those "too good to check" stories, so perhaps we should have expected it to turn out to not be true after all. Oh, well.
I was already aware of the malware-delivering headhunting scam as it's been used a few times before to get into sensitive systems. Developers' personal laptops usually have terrible security (it gets in the way when hacking at stuff) and yet these machines also often have privileged access to their employers' systems. Supporting evidence: my personal kit until I got wise to the fact this is no longer a theoretical attack and started sandboxing.
@pndc i ran separate work and personal laptops just for mental hygiene and was immediately happier

If all our comrades of Europe, America and other countries, who do not understand what we are doing to Spanish anarchism, would come to Spain, we could then see how they would react.

After the reporting on Proton CEO Andy Yen pushing AI on workers and broader issues at the company last week, Proton employees are pushing for their colleagues to unionize and make sure Yen is held to account.

@simonbp personally I prefer orange, but there wasn't enough poll slots for everything..
@herrLorenz @davidgerard Definitely sounds like a good reason to leave google.

...but. The internet is built on digital technologies from the time when software was for 'hackers' (in the playful, good sense, not the current media reframing) & the fork between capital & community in the software world. That fork resulted in two parallel universes. The Big Tech/Big Four/IT Media one, and the libre/open source one. The former has capital, the latter just has dedicated, talented people, largely uncompromised by greed, having fun scratching their own itches.

It turns out that the itches libre developer communities have scratched for the past few decades are ones that affect most people. They've resulted in some seriously powerful, but tragically under appreciated digital artefacts. The lack of capital = ~zero marketing. But the communities of interest are tight & get a LOT done. When, with emergence of Trump, the EU realised how its entire sovereignty was dictated by US Big Tech (who control *all* their information, and how they work with it)...

@georgetakei I hate trump but god it's so funny to me, going up on stage and actually saying you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. "whatever the hell that red crap is"
My biggest problem in this modern web we’re living on is I basically never want to watch a video, but all the economic and algorithmic incentives push basically 100% of all online stuff to be video-only
@chockenberry Localization is supposed to happen completely automatically for those symbols. You can still directly address other locales, but I imagine the value in doing so is when you intentionally wanted to show a *foreign* symbol.
Symbolsaurus still exposes them all, if you’re desperate 😉
@clarko Ah! That’s where I saw it (on iOS). Using it on macOS now. Thanks!
(I love that you made this app - search and categories are so much better. And it leaves the templating bullshit in SF Symbols where Apple has to do the fragile stuff.)
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
