Emissary

Emissary is a Fediverse server that you can customize to do many different things. Anyone can install and run their own Emissary servers, or create custom apps that run in its sandbox. The listings below are all Emissary apps that bend the software into many different shapes. Emissary includes a number of advanced features, like online sales via Stripe, a search engine you can follow, data portability using the LOLA standard (demo video), and end-to-end encryption (demo video).

Bandwagon

Bandwagon is a social platform that brings musicians and bands to the Fediverse. Artists can share and sell music online, publish concerts and other events, and share news posts with band info. All of these show up in followers’ new feeds, and can be aggregated using Emissary’s federated search engine.

Atlas Maps

Atlas Maps is a proof of concept that publishes Fediverse posts on a map. Intended for community reporting and events, posters can add time and place information to their posts. Visitors can then search for posts visually on an interactive map, and can query by tag or date range. (demo video)

Qwertylicious

Qwertylicious is an upcoming blogging engine that will bring long-form posts to the Emissary ecosystem. It allows bloggers to give premium content to paid subscribers in any of several membership tiers. Look for Qwertylicious to launch later in 2026.

Conversations (Encrypted Messenger)

Conversations is the messaging client build for Emissary that features the forthcoming end-to-end encryption protocol. It’s funded and owned by the Social Web Foundation, and can be used as the basis for other AGPL encrypted messengers. (demo video)
