@cwebber's essay is SO GOOD. I am dismayed that I missed it.

Well, this is weird. A Wisconsin State Trooper, originally from South Africa... detained by ICE....
Can't make this stuff up. .🙄
ICE takes Wisconsin state trooper into custody

@knowprose One of the weird aspects is that you don't even have to have permanent residency, much less be a US citizen, to become a state trooper in Wisconsin.

"Drive through the Town of Paradise today and you will see the signs of recovery across the landscape: fresh roofs, ember-resistant vents, cleared ground around new homes...By typical metrics, this is a resilience story. But look again and ask who lives in those homes."
Not trying to brag but I was told by a Canadian today I have a beautiful colon

Why do young people love going out so frickin' much? We get it. You love being out. You still believe the world is an inherently good place full of possibilities. You've not yet completed The Trials or know The Terrible Truth. Only indoors is safe. Inside with the doors locked and the curtains closed. At home where the TV and the biscuits live. There are no surprises at home. You cannot bump into people. No loud and terrifying public transport. Just soft carpet and your best friend - old Fridgey.
@TheBreadmonkey I can just about remember something about music and dancing and chatting?

@mastodonmigration Schumer thinks he is. He thinks he's got the seniority and the support from his caucus in the Senate. And maybe he does, but Chuck might be mis-underestimating the situation.
Unlike people of my age (aka gen x) the younger people are done fucking around. They want change and they want it now, not after 40 years of incrementalism.

Le Monde knows how to write an informative headline.
The New York Times, not so much.
Small story time. I really wanted to be in class with a group of people. I joined an online course for guitar. The more I tried to participate and lean into the course, the more inadequate I felt. My creativity started drying up because I felt overwhelmed by the theory and technical skill I did not have. I noticed this and left the course. Continued below-
@ambergrey We all learn in different ways.
I also learn primarily by doing. If I need a new skill to achieve a goal, I'm inclined just to dive in and, when I get stuck, go looking for the information I'm missing.
Without the goal I'm not motivated to learn things for the sake of learning them. It sounds as if you're similar.
@Mrfunkedude this is brutal, but I love that the setup first sentence ends with "Oregon/Washington". Not sure of the exact location
@healyn an air of uncertainty for some reason gives people the impression that a story is real.

A great clip from Marc Lamont Hill on the latest election news.
This is about the be the lease serious US election thread.
But combing through the results there's a lot of confirmed and shifts in US political power...
But like... by turn out... this shit wasn't a "Blue wave"... BLACK voters turned out in high numbers and voted consistently af for PROGRESSIVES when available and democrats in droves.
One of the clearest signals right now is a re-asserertion of the importance of the Black vote in America.
Now go tell that to MAGA so they croak on the news
@AugierLe42e l'occasion de prendre des poilus ? 🤗
