Wait until @gilahava704 gets to Star Trek Picard.
@draken @gilahava704 She's watching TNG for the first time now, so to preserve the relative timeline she'll have to wait 26 years after we finish TNG to start that series.
@ubersoft Ravens, perhaps? Hard to tell against the light, but that would certainly fit the ahaha bill.
@anarchic_teapot I have no idea. Also, heya! Been a while!

It is the same reason that Farage and his chums are not too fiercely pursued for their dodgy deals. They are letting the public know it is happening and that pisses the rest of the corrupt politicians who try to hide it all with privatisation, think tanks, lobby groups and special deals with the IR.
@manawyrm I have rotated both ends, at different times, of two sets of cables!
***chain guards are required nowadays? I assume because these are sold to kids....
@ai6yr The cpsc has a list of requirements for bikes that range from extremely sensible (no sharp edges, bolts that do not sheer off when using for a person of a certain weight over a certain distance) to pretty silly and probably ignored by most expel (sellers get around them by not having bikes fully built, I think even leaving the edges of founts as making it "custom" and therefore not needing to meet certain requirement)
https://www.cpsc.gov/content/bicycle-requirements-business-guidance (I only looked that up because your chain guard comment made me scratch my head and go "really?")
@jalefkowit The idea of being rich and living like shit pisses me off so fucking bad dude. I'm literally saving up for a vacuum right now. If I had a million dollars I would live in a beautiful sparkling 1br eating various superfoods on a not-broken couch like an ancient Greek aristocrat or whatever
Sam Altman changed his Twitter username to RAM Altman for a while but has changed it back. Anyone got screenshots of the old version?
For those struggling with democracy, here's how we do it (not perfectly but I think pretty fairly) in Australia.
1. Everyone is expected to vote. There is a small fine if you don't show up and get checked off the electoral roll. If you choose to vote by scribbling a dick and balls on your ballot paper, whatever. Campaigning is focused on issues not on "please go vote". Getting a call, text or email from a political party is pretty rare.
2. There is a government department tasked with making it easy and feasible for everyone to vote. Waiting longer than 5 mins is very rare. There is generally a polling place within walking distance. Pre-poll and postal voting are available for those who can't make it on the day (which is always a Saturday).
3. Voting is by ranked-choice. You cannot "waste" your vote, if your first preference comes last, your vote transfers to your second preferenace (and so on). This means independents and smaller parties get elected and can have influence.
4. After the election, parties receive a small amount of funding for each first-preference vote they receive. This means putting the Lazycrats *second* after the FreeKittensParty hurts the Lazycrats in their hip pocket, even if the FKP could never win.
5. Voting places are friendly. Usually they are a school or church where an impromptu jumble sale and barbecue happens. I have never seen a cop, soldier or even a display of anger at a polling place.
6. Campaign workers must stay a certain distance away from the polling place. Advertising must end the day before the election.
7. Election campaigns last about 4 weeks, not years.
You don't have to make this so fucking hard.

Fediverse
Hi from normals.me. If you can read this, the federation works
This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.
Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).
What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.
Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.
Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.
Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.
Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.
If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.
I hope we all have fun. Cheers!

I’m as surprised as the next person when some of these ideas come to me and tell me that they need to be painted, especially the ones that come in my dreams.
I don’t know where they come from, but they feel important. 1/3
@getkirby Great 😁 I guess I should migrate to 5 in preparation to 6 then :-D
@yatil Between 4 and 5 there's hardly any migration. Maybe a plugin update or two.
US CPSC: Sanven Technology Recalls Vevor BMX Bicycles Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Crash Hazard; Violate Federal Requirements for Bicycles
"...The bicycles violate the mandatory safety regulation for bicycles, because they are not equipped with a chain guard. Loose clothing can get entrapped in the chain drive, posing a risk of serious injury or deadly crash hazard. In addition, the bicycles do not comply with the labeling requirements. ..."
i recall getting pant leg caught in the chain at high speed. not fun when all you have is coaster brake and the chain comes off. we never had chain guards unless a new bike. tie bell-bottoms around ankle to prevent.
What prompts people to get those robot Inspector Gadget illuminous lighthouse neon teeth? You wouldn't replace...... your ears with very obviously fake ears that are like 50 shades lighter than the rest of your face. Like little nightlights on the sides of your head. That would be mad. Just a facial patchwork of lunacy.
