@ssiekmann In my experience, a lot of journalists are still pretty unwilling to believe that companies will just lie. And that’s a particularly bad perspective to hold when you’re covering the crypto sector.
If you want to create a wall of Fediverse posts, there's a site called Fediwall which lets you do that:
You can adjust what the wall shows by clicking on the bar at the top of the page with the hashtags and account address on it.
Want to know more about Sup?
@dansup will there be link like sup.link/username for profile chat ?
What did I say? You connect appliances to the internet, this is what you get. You should not be able to hack yoghurt.

@TheBreadmonkey Who could possibly have seen this coming?

@molly0xfff @ssiekmann
Mainstream journalists believe whatever their billionaire bosses want them to believe. The corporate media isn’t journalism. It’s the propaganda arm of the ruling class.
@MaddieM4 the ugly face of what Code Of Conducts are have first shown when *all* open source conferences dropped masks the moment that was legally allowed. Nothing says diversity and inclusion more than excluding the vulnerable. It didn't even require a lot of effort or money. Just continue wearing a mask.
And then, of course, most of them didn't ban LLMs.
The hypocrisy is through the roof.

Got some fresh Fediverse spam today promoting jmty.io
I’m busy working, so I don’t have time to investigate it, but the two accounts that messaged me are @rika_xjx9en@mk.spook.social and @yuna_ozee76@mk.spook.social. I’ve seen Misskey spam spread on the Fediverse before and it usually spreads before it is stopped, so I thought it might be worth a mention.
In the past, I’ve copied some of the text in the spam messages and added it to my filters. That might be helpful for you. This is the text I received in the messages:
【激安タイムセール】iPhone・PS5・ブランド品が最大80%OFF。アウトレット市場がオープンしました。在庫限り、なくなり次第終了です → jmty.io/shop/

I only posted because in the past, when I’ve seen this, they ended up being quite large campaigns affecting many people.
Thankfully, it seems that doesn’t seem to be the case this time around.
"Activist Checklist is 'AI' Slop Fucking Garbage"
From the blurb on the back:
> TL:DR
> Activist Checklist sprang into existence and aggressively pushed themselves on the movement. Their site is AI slop, and their advice is not suitable for radicals, yet radicals keep boosting it. They have dubious ideological alignment in that they are AI advocates and can’t sufficiently critique the dangerous parts of the tech space that activists often end up relying on for infrastructure. Their advice endangers people in subtle ways, and it doesn’t aim to radicalize them. Their website simply should not exist.

Some more highlights:
- not understand how cops do location tracking and therefore not recommending sufficient protections against it
- recommending not-actually-private solutions and apps
- being completely AI-brained and making horrible recommendations, just generally speaking
- using AI for content and translations
- using AI to do SEO including generating manipulative content to pull in users
- trying to seed Wikipedia and other sites with backlinks for SEO
- collecting fucking e-mail addresses during a period of heightened repression
Stop recommending them. Ask people who have recommended them to pull their recommendation. Trash their zines. Flip their tables.
What should I ask the #solar installer who is coming to do a survey tomorrow?
I'm intending to ask for a Sunsync with no connectivity (other than the 485/modbus socket so I can drive it myself).
Things I have on the list:
* Confirm model of inverter/panels/etc
* Check they do the DNO/G98 stuff
* Check bird protection included
* What electrical work is needed
* Where do we put stuff
* Which batteries - to go outside?
claude, show me the oppiest op that ever opped

@davidgerard It would be funny to fill the discord group with proxied customer support LLMs. Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge for that & I also don't want to accidentally expose myself to LLM output while putting it together.
I feel equal parts disgusted and amazed that I have 437GB of *.cpp files on my disk.

The term "Nazi Bar" has been so relevant, and used so often, that it's starting to reach a point of semantic satiation, and bad actors are preying on that to say "but surely you don't mean this uwu smol bean first time contributor assisted by Claude is a Nazi?"
When the point of the parable is that many social environments have mutual exclusion problems between two factions:
1. The people contributing to a friendly and open commons for as many people as possible, and
2. The people who want to pillage and/or gatekeep that commons.
And you need to be able to identify the second category and make them unwelcome, as your only exception to friendly open access.
Whereas so many open source projects seem to take the stance: "we are rebranding the restaurant to be a pork BBQ and every single product will need to contain pork. Our longtime vegan customers are welcome to continue participating as long as they don't cause drama." That is picking a side, and doing it badly.
“After just a few minutes browsing through The Paris Law Courts (1894), you will find yourself wishing that similar books had been written about any number of institutions from the past. In 1892, members of la Presse Judiciare Parisienne, the association of reporters attached to the Paris courts, collaborated on a comprehensive account of the structure, workings, and personalities involved in the complex world of the criminal and civil courts. In twenty-seven chapters written by nearly as many newsmen, we are given a tour of a unique institution with guides as factual as Zola and as observant of human fancies and follies as Balzac.”
This is something I really particularly felt with the LibreOffice drama.
Okay. There are people who are trying very hard to protect the world, to the degree they can. You want to make their lives significantly harder? And it's because you're unwilling to make your project very marginally less convenient for the people who are actively trying to burn the world down? Get the fuck out. And don't pretend to be an ally in my mentions.
“‘A Real New Woman’ blared the headline of a wire report across America. ‘Miss Dorothy Chestie, the English actress recently arrived in this country, has altogether discarded skirts for daily wear.’
“Discarded her skirt? Well, it wasn’t as if she walked around her West 22nd Street neighborhood with entirely bare lower body. Chestie simply preferred the physical freedom afforded by bloomers, which in the 1890s were loose trousers that came in at the knee typically worn under a skirt or dress.”
also what the hell is this "foundation models" stuff? is that a way of rebranding the fact that these products are all built around doubly-subsidized api pulls to one of two companies who will probably be jacking up their prices soon? the structure of that sentence as i typed it makes me think that i believe this is the answer. i want to speak to the Business Terms They Use In The Newspaper manager i have a god damnn complaint
the idea that hallucinations are a little glitch we're juuuust about to work out is one of the most fundamental and maddening obfuscations of this entire bubble. it has been 9 years since attention is all you need, 6 since RAG, and 4 since chatgpt. we have blown more wealth on this technology than arguably any major project in the history of civilization. is "reliable pizza ordering" coming at 10 trillion parameters? maybe another $500,000,000,000 will do it
