Seriously, 24GB for a minor OS update? Insane.
Code-execution flaw in UEFI firmware threatens most servers on planet Earth
Critical flaw in EDK2 allows attackers to execute code early in the boot process.

@arstechnica @Viss Will this affect my boot sector games?

Today has been a busy day, and not just work-wise. Some random thoughts:
- FreeBSD jails and ZFS have saved a client once again. Because things happen, and when they do, it's good to be prepared.
- Mixing different PHP versions on a Debian or Ubuntu host is never easy, especially in the long run. It works, but sooner or later something will go wrong. Better to isolate them in containers, and when I do that, I prefer FreeBSD and jails.
- OpenBSD keeps evolving on its own terms. And that's reassuring.
- NetBSD quietly keeps going its own way, just as it has for many years. And so do my NetBSD servers. Maybe it's time to run some performance comparisons and write about them on my blog.
I'm still passionate about technology. The same technology that gets me out of bed every morning and makes me want to sit down at my computer.
And I hope I can keep doing this for many years to come.
Thank you, technology. The good kind. The kind that still inspires me and makes me smile.
Back when I was in my Christian Girlie Phase, I specifically shopped for a plain Bible cover, so I wouldn't appear vain or consumerist.
@RickiTarr Mine was as colorful as Joseph's Many Colored Dreamcoat ... kind of a giveaway.
Listen. I know far less about cars than most but even I have some foundational questions about what I am looking at here.
@futurebird I think they are using fiberglass to repair body damage after an accident.
SpaceX Whines About Space Collisions After Gutting Regulators That Oversee That Sort Of Thing - https://www.techdirt.com/2026/10/26/spacex-whines-about-space-collisions-after-gutting-regulators-that-oversee-that-sort-of-thing/
@gsuberland @atax1a @gisgeek @neko @ipaschke @notthatdelta that is indeed my goal in bringing up the research! open models do not automatically mean better!
@ariadne @gsuberland @atax1a @gisgeek @neko @notthatdelta That's very true. They're all a black box even to their creators.
And I don't think OpenAI and Anthropic are doing a great job positioning their models as the safe alternative to the world with their constant stream of press releases on how dangerous their models are 🙂. "The world" might also have some specific trust issues right now.
@stefano Beautifully written, Stefano. So interesting to be taken back to such an 'ordinary' but also meaningful day.
@bluetea @stefano@fedihome.stefanomarinelli.it thank you, Helga! Normal, ordinary days are often the most important ones. Like small water drops, making a lake.
@ariadne i suppose that if you're lost in the sauce you get _completely_ lost in it
@pikhq I think it really sucks that this has become "the" wedge issue

You used to log onto the internet and find out it was peanut butter jelly time. Not any more.
