My brother bought me a pair of string backed driving gloves for my birthday. I neither own a car, nor have a driving licence. He's teetotal, so I'll get him a bottle of brandy.
@fesshole
At least he can give the brandy to his guests.
That’s cool!
@stux The University of Iowa football field is across the street from the children's hospital. Children on upper floors can see the game. Fans turn and wave to the kids at the end of the first quarter.
Iowa State and Iowa are bitter rivals except when it comes to the hospital. That brings them together

I’m Rania from Gaza. 💔🇵🇸
The war destroyed our home and left my children and me struggling to survive without the basic necessities.
I’m asking for your help. Even a small donation or a share can help us get through another difficult day. 🙏🤍

Today in Labor History November 3, 1889: Amelio Robles Avila was born in Xochipala, Guerrero, Mexico. Assigned female at birth, Robles lived openly as a man from the age of 24 until his death at the age of 95. In 1911, Robles fought in the Mexican Revolution and for the overthrow of Porfirio Diaz. From 1913-1918, Robles fought as “el Coronel Robles” with the Zapatistas and was eventually given his own command. After Zapata was killed, he fought under Obregon in the Agua Prieta Revolt. One of his neighbors said that any time someone misgendered him, he would threaten them with a pistol. A public school was named after him using the masculine version of his name, though there is a museum in Xochipala that refers to him as “Coronela Amelia Robles.”

Because Weezer’s blue (1994) and gold (2026) albums share the same title, Apple Music has decided to combine them as the same album in my music library. 🤦♂️
@ramsey lol, what about most of their other albums?
@zeborah if a national organisation like the National Libraries commissioning the development/adaptation of libre/open source software for its all its members' use it would offer so many advantages it would hard to count - the 'profit' would go into the software, stay in NZ, and not to foreign shareholders. What's more our Pacific neighbours could use it, at little cost, among others. 1/2
@zeborah The same pattern could apply to Min of Ed & Te Whatu Ora & Waka Kotahi, all of whom are over various proprietary software barrels, with people suffering from the adoption of mutually incompatible proprietary tools across their networks that don't work well together because their vendors designed them not to. Vicious circles vs. virtuous cycles. 2/2

I only posted because in the past, when I’ve seen this, they ended up being quite large campaigns affecting many people.
Thankfully, it seems that doesn’t seem to be the case this time around.

Got some fresh Fediverse spam today promoting jmty.io
I’m busy working, so I don’t have time to investigate it, but the two accounts that messaged me are @rika_xjx9en@mk.spook.social and @yuna_ozee76@mk.spook.social. I’ve seen Misskey spam spread on the Fediverse before and it usually spreads before it is stopped, so I thought it might be worth a mention.
In the past, I’ve copied some of the text in the spam messages and added it to my filters. That might be helpful for you. This is the text I received in the messages:
【激安タイムセール】iPhone・PS5・ブランド品が最大80%OFF。アウトレット市場がオープンしました。在庫限り、なくなり次第終了です → jmty.io/shop/
@nlowell it's okay. I've more or less resolved myself to the fact that there's little that I can do and that this is the life he set up for himself. It's not his fault, but it is the way that it is.
When this first started becoming a thing a few months ago I was in panic mode on and off for weeks. After a while I've just learned to let it go and not hold on to stress that I can do nothing to resolve.
I'm not going to be hold myself responsible for something that I have no power over.
(Gotta hold on to my own mental health you know?)

@Natasha_Jay Sam Altmann says there's no reason for people to have fridges anyway, they should just use his giant fridges and then lease their food back off him
@mgleadow That's the plan for everything, pay the rent and the right to live to the techno-feudal lords and praise all the freedom they bring to us. @Natasha_Jay

If you sit there and don't say anything it's like he's still here, so sit there and be quiet. My family at my twin brother's funeral. That's why I ghosted them all dobbed some members in for benefit fraud.
@fesshole Fair.
@gedvondur @djsundog You're thinking about it the wrong way around. Gartner doesn't sell advice or insight, they sell absolution. They sell a thing that executives who want to escape responsibility can point to and say, well we made this decision that went very badly because we got this advice, it was a reasonable decision at the time. That's the real reason they get paid what they do.
It's the noise of them I'm concerned about. What kind of hearing damage might it contribute to.
