@skyfaller this also reminds me that I have a typewriter I need to take to that typewriter repair shop, I'd love to start using it in earnest
@so_treu What kind of typewriter do you have?
I recommend it, I usually feel better after I write on a typewriter, and worse after I touch a computer.
@pho4cexa I question whether I'll ever get around to it. I've been wanting to play with GToolkit for years though.
Effectively none of the appeal for me is about OOP though. The majority of the appeal is seeing other points outside of the "Programming Hornet's Nest" described by Tomas P here: https://tomasp.net/techdims/#footer=index,navigation;left=catalogue,list;top=catalogue,index
What does it look like for a programming system to _not_ just be a compiler, editor plugin, and a debugger or language server? To me, that's an interesting question.
@kingcons @pho4cexa first of all: this website's aesthetics are absolutely great.
It's also made me aware that I totally slept on Jupyter Notebooks because I've always dismissed them as for "Data People" (despite briefly being one, myself). What could they be like if I wasn't querying data lakes with them?
Also I know someone who works on GToolkit! It sounds like those folks haven't changed their message one bit, except AI is maybe making "you don't understand your software" an easier sell.
Me: Do you have any books on The Titanic?
Librarian: Yes, quite a few.
Me: It's sad that they're all ruined now.
Who'se going to shuffle the deck..... chairs?

Tamara, The Hero of Ramallah
Made a music video praising this woman. YouTube did not like it, but doesn’t matter. It’s in Vimeo while I appeal it, and it’s a joy I can dance to anytime I want. Wouldn’t mind sharing this catharsis with other pro-Palestine people.
She single-handedly took down one of the Internet’s worst pro-IDF propaganda couples. Thank you, Tamara.

@ajroach42 oh cool! That’s better news than I was expecting
@Da_Gut We'll probably end up shooting an episode of This Is Ellijay out there sometime.
@mastodonmigration @heidilifeldman https://bsky.brid.gy/r/https://bsky.app/profile/jamisonfoser.bsky.social But that's what makes it to the news cycle. The quick takeaway is a) that he spoke at all, and b) that he pwned 47, which is important to his base. People who are more informed will go deeper, but for many, that's it. Obama had many good lines, but that's the one that got through the media filter.
@CassandraVert @heidilifeldman
Understood, but clowning around in order to 'break through' the mainstream media filter so that our discourse is about stupid nonsense, and not the true horrors that are really going on, kind of normalizes the horrors. It just does not seem like a time for levity. But, that's just an opinion. He certainly knows how to get attention, so maybe that's good.
Want to collect some thoughts: What are some ways you would say life is better now compared to 25 years ago?
Replies and boosts appreciated <3
@jonah I don't have a bed time. Then again, I'm not sure if I had a bed time when I was 3 - I don't know when those are usually established
It’s 1986 and my mother is shouting at me to stop touching the computer, I’m wasting my life.
It’s 2016 and I am fixing mother’s computer, regaling her about the variety of rich opportunities computer touching has given me in my life.
It’s 2026 and I am cursing my mother for ever letting me touch a computer. I have wasted my life.
@NF6X that's the name of the actual product, check it out. It's pretty cool!
Here's a little peek behind the curtain at one of our recent toymaking initiatives.
We're designing and injection molding original jointed action figures right here in #Ellijay.
Pictured here is a joint test, featuring a WIP sculpt, complete with interchangeable parts.
In another few weeks, we'll have a whole line of original jointed figures available (and then I'll finish bootlegging Kubto Mushi.)
@MountainTownToys Wow! It's wild to see that this was May of 25.
We've progressed so much since then!
Sometimes if I realize I'm on an express that would go past my stop, but not by as much as it would fall short, I'll stay on and get a local going the other way.
In a part of the city I've never laid eyes on tonight, I'd say the method has backfired.
Well that added an extra half hour to the trip home. Good thing I don't have work tomorrow.
