@jonah I don't have a bed time. Then again, I'm not sure if I had a bed time when I was 3 - I don't know when those are usually established
@jonah Doctors and researchers are finally starting to pay more attention to women’s health, e.g. new heart attack diagnosis guidance finally recognizes symptoms that occur more frequently in women, more women are able to access HRT for perimenopause and menopause symptoms. There are still many, many misogynistic predjudices and datasets in medical research and practice, but it is somewhat better than 25yr ago.
@jonah The indoor smoking ban in public places in the UK
This made a massive difference in enjoying restaurants, indoor events, public transport etc
There are so many things that were better 25 years ago but this is such a big positive change
@jonah personally, I am much happier. I didn't like being a teenager.
@jonah In terms of meeting more likeminded people, the world has become a smaller place for friendships with people from all around this neighborhood we call Earth.
@jonah Also, you might like @joybooster and they might like this question, too. 💜
@TorontoLydia oh thank you for sharing this 😊
@jonah I have two answers for you.
1) While there is still a long way to go, LGBTQ+ acceptance and inclusion is much more widespread now. I had no choice but to be closeted back in the day in my small, rural hometown.
2) Genetic testing is far more advanced. I’ve had a few relatives diagnosed with cancer, and they all had genetic testing to not only find out what treatments were best in some cases but also to give the rest of the family information about whether we needed to be tested for cancer-causing. genes as well.
@jonah I asked myself this question some days ago and my answer is very mastodon : we have shared bikes systems in a lot of European cities nowadays 🚲
@jonah there are so much more vegan things now
@jonah Public spaces are cleaner. The whine of CRT monitors is gone. Drink-driving is no longer socially acceptable. There's a much wider choice of food. Queer - especially trans and bi - acceptance is much better amongst everyday society. Racial stereotypes are challenged more often than they are supported.
@jonah Being able to instantly message anyone in the world for free, compared with sending a letter that took days or weeks depending where it was going, or a very expensive long distance phone call. It will never not be novel to me that I can chat with a friend on another continent in real time.
@jonah
-Medicine is way more advanced, especially wrt cancer diagnosis and treatment and anti-depressants.
-Girls CAN get diagnosed with ADHD (and this diagnosis can be a literal lifesaver - as a kid, this was never considered for me. )
@jonah 25 years ago you’d rarely see a wild bald eagle. Now I see them pretty regularly.
@jonah @DevlinLeathercraft I live in a better place with the privacy, quiet, and outrageous views I need. I'm also free of the ball and chain that kept me back from doing so many of the things I wanted to do. I feel more relaxed and happier, despite the world going to hell around us. (I don't doomscroll.)
@jonah You can easily talk to and get to know people from all over the world.
