I have written a "Guide to the Fediverse" on my Production Log. It's a little over 7200 words long, with diagrams.
I couldn't possibly cover everything, but I've tried to hit the highlights of available software, how federation works, and some of the social and management challenges (and advantages) of federated social networks.
I started writing this last year, got distracted in the middle, and then came back to it just this week. Hopefully I haven't made too many typos or grammatical errors in here.

ONE thing that is on display in this movie; is the attitude of who an "inventor" is.
Holmes is repeatedly referred to outside of this documentary and inside of the documentary as an "inventor".
Which is fingernails on chalkboard to me.
SHE dreamed of an impossible device that couldn't actually exist; and left it to engineers and biochemists to create something that could be said to approximately resemble the impossible device.
The prototype devices Theranos made; are not a direct product of her skills.
This is a mistake we're repeating in the present with genAI. The prompter is not creating, the algorithm is.
Jobs did not create the first Apple computer, Wozniac did.
The patron is not the artist.
Pity about that last VSC
@llamasoft_ox Lewis might have had Max without that :/
Airline folks: passengers understand that mechanical issues can delay flights. What's really annoying is when you give out zero updates while everyone cools their heels in long lines at the gate.
@dangillmor yes, would much prefer they prioritize fixing the aircraft over being on time, but it's nice to at least get estimates about timing
"Sorry folks, the wing fell off on landing and we've run out of duct tape." is probably a bad update :)
Well this is eleventy-million kinds of Fucked Up. LA Times (who once contracted with me as a freelance reviewer and whom I struggled to get paid by) asserts that *merely reading its website* constitutes a permanent waiver of your right to sue it under *any circumstances*. This means that freelancers like me who read the website would lose the right to sue the company if we got stiffed. #consenttheater #bindingarbitration #dickovers
@pluralistic Surely this would never stand up in court. I mean, come on. The legal system is all kinds of messed up and biased, but it's not actually stupid.
Pity about that last VSC

I want to replace our Focusrite Clarett+ 8Pre. It offers excellent sound quality, but its operation is reliant on software that's only available for MacOS or Windows, so for me it's the final obstacle to completing the shift from MacOS to Linux.
I had wanted to return to the Behringer UMC1820 which was ergonomically perfect and sounded great. But the unit we had blew up three times, and evidently overheating is a widespread problem.

@elsemusic Have you heard of the ALSA Scarlett Control Panel? It gives you full control over your Focusrite interface. It works perfectly with my Clarett+ 4Pre.
@futurebird The people of the Nordic Bronze Age weren't literate, so all we know of their beliefs is what we can piece together from petroglyphs, carvings and other art.
But we do know that they worshipped the sun. And the sun's trip around the world was a pretty wild ride. First it was pulled from the waters by a giant fish, then a giant waterfowl helped lift it into the sky. From there, it was pulled across the sky by a great horse, until it was placed on a ship and sailed to the horizon. At sunset, a giant snake would come and pick up the ship, and would then pull the ship (with sun on board) through the underworld until the fish could take over and begin the cycle again.
The ship was crewed, and the current consensus is that the crew was most likely the souls of the dead ancestors! But we can't know for sure; they had no written language, and while they had some contact with Greeks, nothing was ever written down about them.
@rolle You didn't have to go to all that effort to tell me, so it's very much appreciated. Thank you.
@david No probs, just here to help whenever I can ✌️ posting things like these openly just in case if others have similar issues, maybe they will find help here (my public post do index). And genuinely enjoying what I do.

I’ll never understand how Republicans got years said “Communism is when good thing x happens” and are absolutely shocked that young people are okay with communism

Thanks for providing this context. It reminds us that when Trump and other leaders speak, we have to ask, who is the audience? Too many people assume our leaders are addressing the American people, when they are often speaking to other leaders and the wealthy overlords pulling the strings.
