They had more holidays and time off than we do now. Most of their work was seasonal, they were worked almost to death at harvest time for example.

The US government crushes unions routinely.
They were at over 45% of the work force in the 1940s-50s.
Now less than 10%, and most of those are cops ironically. The union busters have a union.

300 searches is ten per day, they aren’t that many. Most days I think I’d do less than that but then there are days that I’m looking for something specific and might do many times that.
It is definitely not something to use instead of bookmarks like most people use google.
have they ever had a real hearing test? the test where they're inside a sound proof room
@coolcalmcollected they have and my mom has hearing aids. My dad just rolls with it.

The AD-BASED internet is DYING, and it's getting WORSE in the process

This instant "topokki" from HEB is not bad, but it is SO not the real thing. Just makes me want to get the real stuff from the restaurant.
Na Malostranském náměstí stále probíhá demonstrace na podporu veřejnoprávních médií. Na místě vše sleduje redaktor ČT Pavel Skalník.
@waag Zeer rare move. Waag schrijft:
@hvdsomp goed punt Herbert.
Fun fact: I grew up in Lubbock, Texas, which is just a shining beacon of conservative bullshit. Absolute dogshit place to live. It's also the home of texas tech university (3rd tier state university, but they're pretty good at football). Which has always made the "liberal colleges indoctrinating impressionable young adults" line seem entirely preposterous.
Anywayyyyy, this is a roundabout way of saying that TX republican GOTV targeting is deeply fucked, and they forgot I don't live there anymore. Which is why today they told me, specifically, that Greg Abbot is going to be campaigning there the Friday before election day. That's where he's spending his time.
(lmao)
This is hilarious because lubbock is an automatic win for them. They couldn't lose it if they tried (although they are trying (lmao)). But they're so desperate to get their base to actually go vote, that this is how they're spending their time and money. They're not even trying to suppress votes anymore (I mean, by the standards of tx elections). They're desperately begging their people to vote at all because they ran a slate of historically corrupt and unlikeable assholes on a campaign of white grievance at the same time they doubled everyone's grocery bills, and nearly tripled the price of gas. And this was all right after they cut their margins down to nothing to try and cheat out 2 or 3 more house seats.
People haaaaaaaate them. There's a real chance that they lose control of the state. L M A O
And, just for the fun of it, when you’re about to close the Duo, pieces will slide into the fold! Don’t worry, they’ll snap back when you open it again.

Wouldn’t that be part of the “maintenance” cost? If I run an ice cream cart, I need to keep purchasing supplies to keep selling ice cream.
No, usually materials cost is tracked separately from equipment maintenance.

That’s not new. They’ve had it for a long time now.
Years ago @aeva introduced me to Signed Distance Fields (SDF) as an interesting direction for making 3d art more accessible. Her Tangerine project remains super inspiring to me, and I appreciate Aeva as the kind of friend who is "helpfully dissatisfied" and wants to push tech in interesting directions
But I hadn't seen much in SDF land for some time, but recently @metin has been doing interesting explorations and tracking them in this mega thread: https://blenderartists.org/t/the-big-sdf-thread/1293075/2119
The big contenders seem to be the Chisel add-on to Blender, but it's proprietary :(
But Speedsculpt is getting SDF tools now too, and that looks promising, so maybe there will be a libre add-on I'll feel comfortable using (I don't mind paying for it, as long as it's FOSS). And there was something on the Blender roadmap recently about maybe possibly exploring builtin SDF tools to replace metaballs etc.
I dunno, seems cool and exciting.
