The rustification is ongoing, with Rust-written programs now allowed and existing C code not being ported.
A heartbreaking reminder that AI isn't a reliable information resource. https://www.comicsands.com/lawsuit-chatgpt-epilepsy-death?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=infeed&utm_campaign=linkprogram
Short version: This is really sad, and my condolences to her family and friends. But at what moment in time have people stopped using their brain, even considering she was in a hard place regarding her job search.
Long version: This is testament to the US being a corporate oligarchy. She was laid off due to her illness. That would not have happened anywhere in western Europe. This can only happen in a place where employees are completely dependent on the whims of the employer because they have NO RIGHTS.
Had this happened in France, Germany, or the Netherlands, she would not have been fired, even with those Amazon stinkers (and basically EVERY US corp operating in Europe) trying to bend and break our laws because they see regulations as optional. And it would not have played a role whether she was a citizen or had only a temporary permit of residency.
So, the lesson is this, labor rights are not a nuisance, they make a society humane! They have been hard fought for by generations of activists in unions and parties. And they are the difference between wage slavery and real freedom. This poor woman could still be alive had she not chosen the USA for immigration but a place where people are more than cogwheels in a profit machine for billionaires...
i once had a depressive episode triggered by Death of a Salesman. and it makes me think of how inadequate the concept of reviews are because in all regards my experience consuming this work of media was very negative and not something I could recommend, yet i also overwhelmingly feel it is one of the greatest plays ever written and an important work of art. a five star system cannot account for "as a vector of emotions and thematic arguments it is outstanding, as entertainment it is horrible"
Don't worry. Kalshi is expanding their protections for 18-20 year old players*
They have put a sensible $2500 (monthly) limit on accounts held by teens.
Wow.
*In much of the US you must be 21 to gamble, but Kalshi allows anyone over 18 to use their app.

Dissatisfied with off the shelf game engines lately, been working on my own little cross platform framework, targeting turn of the millenium hardware.
In this test project I haven't animated the player mech's legs so just pretend there are wheels attached 🙏
@voxel What's your AI policy?

Hi from normals.me. If you can read this, the federation works
This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.
Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).
What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.
Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.
Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.
Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.
Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.
If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.
I hope we all have fun. Cheers!
Someone in my extended social circles has been having a very outwardly visible psychiatric episode, and I personally know like a dozen people trying to get through to them and help them. I think the saddest part is that they posted wondering if they even have any friends at all. An entire community desperately trying to get through to them and save them, comparing notes and trying to figure out a plan, but the psychosis is lying to them that they're all alone.
I hope that talking about this will help someone else remember that this is a very well-known way that stressed brains lie to themselves, the next time they feel all alone while in crisis.
[please stop and apply common sense before loudly replying in a public post, "do you mean so-and-so?"]
@0xabad1dea fervently and quietly hoping this means any of the people who come to mind even though I don't think you know any of them actually because I deeply hope every single one of them has such good community trying so hard to help

If you think choosing tailwind forces you into a certain style of website, you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.
And you clearly haven’t just used AI for tests. I wonder if the source is closed because you know how obviously AI generated it would look if it was open source?
Tailwind it’s a utility first framework with no pre built components, I think you are the one that does not know what are you saying, you build whatever you want and can fully customize the theme that’s literally the point of it, and it’s in the official docs.
On the AI and closed source speculation, the auth, signatures, permissions, input handling is standard and went through an OWASP review before launch I said it before. I said I used AI for unit tests, integration tests, performance work, and even to attack my own app. I did not say I let it write the product. After 15+ years writing software, most of us already know AI still ignores SOLID, duplicates existing functions, and introduces security issues if you hand it the whole job. But you’re free to dislike the design or the decision to keep the anti-abuse parts private. The transparency page is public if you want the actual policies and review status instead of the theory.
Again, if you don't like the UI or think this is all robots, you can always join X, Reddit, or any other platform that steals your data and helps big corporations, or you can develop your own and invite me, but for that you need to be developer first. I thought people were different in the Fediverse.

@taziden @leah@chaos.social isn't such a cookie a good way to detect the bot? :)
@leah@blahaj.social @leah@chaos.social it is, and that's what we do :-)
But that's just one behavior, it doesn't filter all the illegitimate requests though.

I stopped reading at “fun toy”.
There’s always some shill willing to go “yeah this steals people’s work, mangles it and spews bullshit back at them, all while destroying the environment, to make a few dudes richer. It’s nuanced”. 🙄

I don’t think you quite understand why AI is so bad and why local models are no different. whynoai.info
