You can swing an election more than a billionaire buying ads by manning the snacks table at phone bank night.
They spent SO MUCH MONEY and lost lost lost. The money doesn't work, so there is no need to chase and be polite to the people who hand it out.
Maybe be nice to Shirley at the snacks table instead. How about that?
AI is not sentient. It is not a person. It is not a ghost in a machine. It is Clippy with a GPU, Autocorrect with a venture capital fund, and a statistical prediction engine dressed up in Silicon Valley mythology.
And that distinction matters.
AI is not going to rise up and overthrow humanity. The people pushing AI are trying to. And they are sentient. They are people. They have names, bank accounts, political influence, and an alarming number of GPUs.
We do not have a *Rise of the Machines* scenario.
We have a *Rise of the Techbros* scenario.
And unlike Skynet, they can vote, lobby, exploit workers, dismantle regulations, and buy politicians.
The real threat isn't "artificial intelligence" (respectively: statistical word-arrangement). It's capitalism wielding "artificial intelligence" as another weapon to concentrate wealth, privatise knowledge, deskill labour, and turn human creativity into an extractive resource.
The machines aren't coming for us. Instead, the billionaires are already here, trying to make us pay rent on our own future.
But that future isn't theirs to own. We are not passive spectators in our own history. We can organise, resist, build alternatives, and reclaim the tools and knowledge that belong to us all.
The question isn't what machines will do to humanity. It's what we, as human beings, choose to do together. 🐙
Tuesday's election was a wholesale rejection of Silicon Valley's worldview and AI-powered kleptocracy.

@alisynthesis Yes no doubt the next two years are gonna be hard but hopefully meaningful work for everyone stateside. But it's wonderful news to wake up to, even here in Orkney where I live :)
@mrowster I can't tell you how thrilled I am not to be 100% embarrassed by my country right now. :)
Thanks for the support!
shop.onegeekarmy.eu and diskjockey.onegeekarmy.eu are momentarily down due to some DNS shenanigans (it's always DNS).
I'm being told that they should be back up in the next 24 hours at most.
If you've placed an order, fret not, I didn't disappear into the night and you'll have news soon.
Turns out SI is short for suck it!
Well, there was always but one, genuine and beneficial SI, established in 1960 already: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_System_of_Units
We are at the "turning off the power" stage of the boiler replacement, so we are running at Business Continuity Level 3, having switched over to the generator.
So far, business is continuing...
@neil out of curiosity who did you get to replace your boiler. Ours is supposedly end of life but so far I haven’t had much luck getting folk to quote.
Caught me another 58x speedup (98% reduction) for GtkTextView when doing apply/remove tag toggles across a region that already has them.
This is extremely common when updating syntax highlighting ranges due to typed text changes.
I’m reflecting on all the different types of people who won as Democrats tonight. Different genders, different races, different ethnicities, different sexual orientations. Differences in style and, to some degree, in substance. But all recognizably and clearly antifascist, pro-democracy, committed to pluralistic constitutional democracy, rule of law.
That commonality should not be taken for granted. It is the bedrock on which we can build a more just and livable country.
@heidilifeldman Hakim is not anti fascist, Schumer is not anti fascist , Newsome is not anti fascist
@tante @littledetritus political science, then MBA and a masters in Engineering Management
so uh
@davidgerard @tante That reads like a complexity of reality distortion education.

With these midterm election results, Democrats have a mandate to fight Trump and deliver for the working class. This is what they should do. https://theintercept.com/2026/11/04/midterm-election-results-democrats-blue-wave
@mrowster I hope all these people are ready to work, because there is a LOT to do, at least in my neck of the woods.
NH has had a really rough time the last few years, as the target of a Libertarian takeover of our state. They have kinda merged with MAGA to create a coalition that is tearing our schools apart, decimating state revenue, etc.
(If you haven't heard of the Free State Project... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_State_Project)

The last people I wanted to see on my TV screen this morning were Rahm Emanuel and Chris Matthews.
Jeff, sometimes I worry about your media diet. 😁
Yesterday, we've started heating the place.
The neighbor is angry about us being able to heat in winter for the first time in five years, so she called the national gas company.
They came over, checked everything and obviously nothing's wrong as it's beek verified after the new boiler installation this summer.
She didn't even open the door so we've had to, and now she's angry because nothing's wrong.
How can you be upset that people aren't dying of cold?

@SonnyBonds more flint testing. Q3 messes up writing files and ends up writing reasoning traces into the tool call. Q4 is already too big for my laptop.
@lritter Oh I haven't had that happen here. After some more testing it struggles to be very useful though. It does some smaller things, but pretty slowly with a lot of messing about.
Currently giving bonsai-2 a whirl. Specifically the small 9b variant just because it's pretty fast.
