@Langile Some customers still buy the ice drinks at -20/-30C- I sometimes joke that their cars have much better heating than mine! (but it must be true). and some hot chocolate (and french vanilla drink-- from same machine as hot chocolate) in hot weather- but lots of hot coffee and hot tea for sure. It's funny when people in the same car are opposite- one ice one hot.
@Langile One sign for me that it is one of our hottest days is when some (never all) of the people who come for hot coffee every day (or 5 times a day) order one of the ice coffee drinks...lol

Again, a survivor has to have gone to the state to complain about their abuser or stalker, they have to file charges etc, and then -- after a pile of work on this front -- some random election worker gets to pour through your paperwork and hand down judgement on whether they think you should live.
@rechelon Registering as a confidential voter in Oregon is much easier in practice than what the law says. When my spouse and I both filed that paperwork, we did have to answer a rather intimidating question about what our justification was for requesting that status, and I agree with you that it's not good that people are just presumed to not need protection unless they have a good reason. But we did not need to provide any evidence, and one employee in the elections office told us that their assumption is that if you're asking for that status then you do need it. Relying on people to interpret the law with empathy is obviously hazardous, and it's possible that our experience in Multnomah County was different than people face elsewhere in the state, but at least in my experience it's really worth trying this process first before just canceling your voter registration.

And, from day 1 - in 2026, yes - it only works on OS images allowlisted by two American companies, Google and Apple. Sanctioned by the US government, like e.g. the ICC judges? Can't use your _German_ digital driver's license.
In any sane society this would have been flagged as a massive issue and have simply stopped the app from launching in the first place.

It wasn't really needed much, but there were always three or four ham radio volunteers there "just in case".
I got a thank you letter from the Minister for my service, the only thank you letter I've ever received from a Tory. LOL!!!

@artcollisions That's why I didn't sew another pair of jeans yet, lol. Needed to wash these and see where I was on the additional shrinkage!!! Since I am most certainly going to have to wash my jeans (none of this silly fashion no-wash stuff), need them to hold up...
