it's nice seeing people get more interested in non-linux kernels. we really need more free software operating systems. lots of interest for netbsd and redox os for example 😁

It's not "lovingly handcrafted" it's professional engineering, you amateur-hour dilettantes flooding the zone with hastily constructed bullshit.

@carnage4life a meat puppet suit would be a great halloween costume.

we way overbought sweets this year, i think we'll be living on haribo for a coupla months
meanwhile our kid has a "trick or treat" shirt they wear all year round *except* Oct 31
I get day time trick or treating... but my heart says that it should be at NIGHT.
hold on a min. ... ya'll do that now over there?
@jubiloMX Part of our tradition growing up was to roast the pumpkin seeds at Halloween. FYI, you should take a walk through queens park tonight, the neighborhood really embraces Halloween.
@mike Since i moved to NW 11 years ago, I have live just on the other side of 6th street, so all of the trick-or-treating the kiddo has done has been on Queens Park Neighbourhood.. that being said.. for myself, i'm the household candy-hand-out-er, since because of being so close to the area we have a lot of visitors as well

Decentralization works perfectly for forums. That’s literally how the forums of the '90s worked: “Tom’s Hardware” was never the only forum for Windows issues, “Codeguru” was never the only stop fo weird Visual Basic 5 error messages, etc.
Federation is orthogonal, and can cover a number of subjects - it’s less about “what’s out there” and more about “how do we get in touch”. We have for example a sorta federated sign-in with things like OpenID. Lemmy, Mbin etc…, are built on the idea of federating the content. CDNs are literally federated caches.
You know what's the most annoying thing about many podcasts?
It's particularly the popular kind.
I was going to write a post about shoes but I saw this link to a podcast and I followed the link to the podcast and then I listened to the podcast.
So now I'm writing a post about podcasts.
And what I want to say is...
And a lot of people come to me and they say the same thing and they ask 'What's the most annoying thing about podcasts?'
And, well, I was listening to this podcast and it suddenly occurred to me what the most annoying thing is. Because Maxx Jenna is always talking about this and Wendy Blendy did some stuff on this and I realised that they were on to something. You know, they were right about this. because this is a thing about podcasts and the most popular ones do it the most.
It's kind of a unique problem with popular podcasts. In fact, I'd say that the more popular the podcast is, the more they do this.
So I was listening to this podcast and I realised something.
I realised something.
I realised that these fucking podcast don't get to the fucking point and they ramble on about nothing instead of getting to the fucking point as if I can be bothered to listen to their fucking rambling all day and it is as if they have actually very little to say and they have to pad out their hour and a half podcast with inane chatter because they've not nothing to say and if they actually got to the fucking point the podcast would literally be 30 seconds long because nothing they have to say is either insightful nor complicated and instead it's just verbal wallpaper that people can put on in the background and probably don't even listen to anyway because who listens to this shit and they probably ignore it and just find the bassy speaking soothing in a hypnotic way because they podcast isn't actually worth listening to because they've got nothing to say Aaaaaaaaghhhh!
@lydiaconwell Hahahah yeah welcome to the attention hijacking economy one rambling and thumbnail and a dollar dollar bling bling to rule them all 😁 #FckSurveillanceCapitalims

It is a lovely 30m view distance Silent Hill morning out, so at least there's that.

@zachleat I have a certain amount of sympathy with the browser team here because… there’s nobody else you can show the error to. A way to have a failing web page email its creator would be fabulous for this but it doesn’t exist. I think what chrome are doing here is bad, I agree. I’m not sure what else they can do. Maybe they should do nothing: that’s about it.
https://www.kryogenix.org/days/2023/01/02/what-to-do-about-hotlinking/ is this same problem from a different angle and I didn’t know what to do about it there either.

tl;dr Look for the green box on the first page that summarizes the study. It continues onto the second page. Let me know if that helps!
