@deadsuperhero We've been discussing hosting options for an [official fediverse.party account](https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediparty/issues/9#issuecomment-23737785) (markdown support? WTF? Yeehaa! Anyway ...) and we'd settled on using a Friendica server hosted by the same folks who host nzoss.mastodon.nz, the longest-running fediverse service in Aotearoa (AFAIK). But I like the idea of having it here instead. A couple of questions;
- First and foremost, would you as admin be willing to host an official fediverse.party account? If you need to choose between honest and polite, go for the former ; )
- What known risks might we be taking by setting up an official account during the tire-kicking stage of a new service (obviously we have to guess about unknown risks for ourselves)?
- One of the benefits of using Friendica is its native support for Diaspora, Zot/Nomad, and maybe even ATProto (maybe not quite native, maybe plugins, but not relying on bridges). Is that something that Bonfire has, or has on the roadmap?
Do you have any questions for us? Feel free to ask them here or in the linked issue.
@Strypey Hey, happy to answer these questions!
Yes, we would absolutely be happy to host Fediverse.Party!
Overall, the server and service is stable, but you might occasionally see changes to the UI, adjustments to features, or bugs. Although Bonfire supports a limited portion of the Mastodon API, client support is pretty limited for right now. Tusky works, though.
Bonfire strictly supports ActivityPub, for better or worse. Not having compatibility with Diaspora may or may not be a deal-breaker, but Diaspora is the only platform that doesn't implement a common protocol used by almost everybody. With that said, Bonfire should work well with Bridgy Fed, so you'll at least get ATproto for free, and they might implement other protocols in the near future.
Let me know if you're still interested in this. 😁
