xkcd about current events that's less funny than the events but to be fair to Randall I don't think anything would be funnier than the private key of a certificate authority being 4
Husband. Cofounder. Somewhat ridiculous. The clump of brain cells responsible for Fedizen, We Distribute, and Brands.Town. Goofy but lovable, passionate about many things.

I wanted to try @dansup@mastodon.social 's new client, columnly.social, but it doesn't seem like it can detect our Bonfire instance yet. Maybe we're missing an endpoint or something in our Mastodon API implementation?
@chartier@toot.cafe Yeah, it's not exactly sporting to have that kind of advantage. If anything, Predators are kind of like hillbillies that have bought way too much military hardware, and are now itching to use it on the first animal they come across.
Really great insights from A New Social. On the one hand, I'd be thrilled to have proper Nostr bridge support, but I'm glad that this organization is thinking from a Trust & Safety perspective.
This is heartbreaking for us Mass Effect fans, but it's not exactly surprising. Bioware has been struggling for a long time now. It just sucks to see a legendary studio close their doors for good. Fuck EA.
Time to upgrade my Ubuntu desktop again today. I wonder what will break? 😀
@gerrit@eicker.news Oh yeah! We're big fans and like it a lot, I use Ghost Pro for my personal site. I think some aspects fall short on the ActivityPub side, but it's not a bad experience at all.
I've periodically thought now and then about switching to Ghost. Honestly, we might go for it, it's just that there's a substantial amount of work that goes into switching site software, migrating articles, and maintaining some level of federation. Given what we're trying to accomplish with fedizen.net, though, it might be worth it...
@gerrit@eicker.news maan, it's still going that?
It's a content negotiation bug with the WordPress ActivityPub integration 😞
It should come up after reloading, but this is such a headache.
I really hate how slow my WordPress installation has become on WeDistribute.org. I'm going to look into ways to clean things up / speed things up, but I'm definitely feeling annoyed about it.
@gerrit@eicker.news If you didn't know, the two platforms currently working on the E2E ActivityPub implementation are Emissary and Bonfire!
For those who are curious, these are what I'm looking at currently:
- PyLova: A soft fork of PieFed
- FediHood: a location-based network that’s sort of like a federated NextDoor?
- XFedi: a slick, single-user Fedi instance
- Omicron: Long-form publishing platform with ActivityPub
- Open Space: Some kind of Canadian alternative instance
- Songhive: a social music platform, compatible with Funkwhale
- Welley: long-form, Facebook-like, lots of polish.
- BizzFed: LinkedIn, but Federated
- Vutuv: Another attempt at a federated LinkedIn
- MovieBuff: a media-tracking service similar to Bookwyrm or NeoDB
- LittleFedi: Go-powered single-binary single-user instance
This week alone, I've discovered no fewer than 11 new #Fediverse platforms I've literally never heard of before.
There's a lot for me to share and write about!
@cidney@mastodon.gamedev.place aw, I don't mind hosting you, though!
I like PeerTube, and appreciate everything the developers have done to make it a better platform. It's actually relatively cheap and pretty easy to self-host it these days, but it's kind of a huge headache if you want to operate a large community instance.
I actually wish more creators saw the value in self-hosting.
Circle Up!
One of Bonfire's premiere social features is Circles, which is kind of like a hybrid between an Access Control list and a Mastodon collection. We've been testing this feature for a while, and one of the more interesting use-cases has involved creating Starter Packs for Discovery purposes.
Circles can also be used to create custom feeds in Bonfire, which we're continuing to experiment with. If you're using Fedizen, you can follow everyone in a circle at the click of a button!
Feel free to check out two of our public circles:
FediDevs: fedizen.net/circle/01M49AFTC...
Fediverse Boosters: fedizen.net/circle/01M4C4WSP...
@lain@lain.com Come on, that's just sad.
Let's go look for a job on BizzFed, the federated LinkedIn alternative!
Jobs on BizzFed:
I want to be @benpate@mastodon.social when I grow up. 🙂
@Gorgritch_Umie_Killa@mastodon.au Fair question! Dogfooding is often the act of using something exclusively for a while, usually an emerging product of some kind, to get a comprehensive feel for everything about it. I guess you could say it's like being a tester, but for the sole purpose of giving feedback.
