@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me there's been talk of doing this sort of thing for C applications as a sort of pseudo-softfloat build of NetBSD, which would enable python to work

@bakachu (including someone who got shot down in a helicopter in Vietnam and was immediately dumped by his young wife of the time, who declared she wouldn't stay married to "a cripple" -- he actually recovered fully albeit with a lot of hardware holding his back together.... and remarried, lol. "that divorce was the best thing to happen to me from Vietnam" was what he said)

#shader question: I have a sphere, the position on which is represented by a normalized vec3.

How do I split it into roughly equal shaped and sized regions with some kind of coordinate of where I am within the region the current point falls into?

@healyn That reminds me of a story about this flock of Terns around Oregon/Washington.

Apparently the state was going to destroy some drugs by burning them, but an animal rights group tried to stop them because where the smoke blew was in the Terns migration path.

But I guess a "mix up" happened and the state ended up burning the drugs anyway. Wouldn't you know it? A flock of Terns went right through the smoke. So of course, the animal rights group had to go and check every bird to make sure it was okay.

You know what they found?

No Tern was left unstoned.

#Computer

From Dragan Maricic:

Can I ask a DUMB tech question?

Why is the Windows main drive called C:?

What happened to A: and B:?

Reply from G Taylor:

From the Book of Disk, Chapter 3.

In the beginning there were the First Drives, and their names were A: and B:,
and they were the floppies. They were not elegant. They were thin, fragile,
and demanded constant sacrifice disk swaps, write protect tabs, the ritual
of "please insert the disk labeled" performed under fluorescent lights. To
them the early machines bent the knee, for without them there was no
boot, no data, no word processor.

Then came the hard drive, and it was called C:, for it arrived third. It did not
ask to be first. It merely sat in the bay and spun, and the people saw that it
was good, and that it held far more than any floppy, and that it did not rattle
when you walked too fast. So they installed the operating system upon it,
and called it the system drive, and the old gods were not cast down but
simply...left in the BIOS, still reserved, still acknowledged in the table of
letters, though no one invoked them anymore.

And Microsoft looked upon the generations that followed, who had never
known the click of a 5.25-inch disk or the careful alignment of a 3.5, and it
said: The children must not be shown the old gods.

For if the new ones learned that A: and B: once ruled, they might ask why
the alphabet begins elsewhere. They might attempt to summon the
floppies by force, or rename the world so that C: was no longer first. And
the installers would break, and the paths would fracture, and the registry
would weep. So the letters remain sealed, A: and B: still written in the book
but never spoken aloud by the system, while C: stands in the open as if it
had always been the beginning.

Thus it is written, and thus it remains; the hard drive is C: , and the old gods
sleep in the assignment table, undisturbed, so that the children may believe
the world has always started with the letter that came third. — From Dragan Maricic: Can I ask a DUMB tech question? Why is the Windows main drive called C:? What happened to A: and B:? Just finished up with the #repairCafe at the library.

I was main for bicycles and backup for laptop repair and Linux Install.

I managed to:
- tune a derailleur on one bike
- attach a kickstand to another
- swap out fresh tires and inner tubes for a third (and taught the family how to do and supervised them while they did the second tire!)

As backup for laptop repair, I helped diagnose and find a mitigation for a set or USB headphones/mic that was only pushing sound through one speaker.

I also met a lot of folks throughout town. Talked to some city organizers and officials. Talked to other groups and folks and had a great time.

The other repair stands besides my bicycle station were:
- A sewing and mending station
- An electronic / appliance repair station
- A historical preservation station
- A furniture repair station
- A laptop repair and Linux install station
- A kids section with coloring and activities

It was a good day.

@gael Just so you know, I am one of your previously regular customers; who is leaving your ecosystem for a phone that promises that it won't ship any AI features by default. ( The commodore callback ).

The lack of AI features is itself a feature for me, and I am voting with my dollars.
