i continue to assert that the cybertruck looked stupid
@ariadne it really seemed like a terrible truck, the nazi salute was just the cherry on top

correction: apparently Verse originates in a team that got acquired by Epic Games: https://skookumscript.com/about/origin/
SPJ only came into the picture a while after the Epic acquisition. I believe he has been involved with the language's evolution but he's not the creator as such. my bad!
@hikari it does seem like it still acts as a lockin mechanism
I'm pretty sure one of the "four freedoms" was the ability to read and inspect the source code. You'd think obfuscated source code, which as far as I'm concerned LLMs produce, is incompatible with that.

It's hard to tell of course, because if you Google "four freedoms" you get dozens of results about a speech FDR made in 1941. Open source people just say "four freedoms" all the time as if they expect you to already know what that is. I think it's some kind of shibboleth
I'm so sick of people trying to fear-monger me about the torment nexus.
As I said, this is a time to act.
If you donate to the Gender Justice League this weekend and share a screenshot here, @crazy4pi314 and I will match your donation, up to a cap of $1,000.
If you can do so, please also get your employer to match your donation.
Please give, boost, and just in general stand up to protect kids in Washington state.

Thank you #totp friends 😁
I'm not stopping for Lena either... Rerunning the 80s episodes for DH as he's just home...
The fun never ends 😂😉🙄
@potatisapan Den kanske skulle på räjv
@doktorzjivago Också möjligt 😄
Do you know I'm really thinking about getting a cybertruck

I am now the editor of Foundation: The International Review of Science Fiction. I'm in the process of setting up Profane Radiance, the Foundational editorial blog. Here we will publish editorials from the print edition and, in due course, additional original material. Here is my editorial from the recently published Foundation 153.

i know i know, i say this every year, but could we have a design for once that does not lean heavily on the "[retro] cyber / digital / tron"-aesthetic? I so enjoyed that of 36c3 being at least a little away from tech, and i feel thematically we dearly need less computer touching in this whole thing …
(to be clear, this is not meant as a criticism of any single particular design or the effort that went into it!)
@stuebinm gated communities was soo good
I did not get quite everything I wanted Tuesday BUT, I did get this email from my new state senator "I spent $0 on voter data and $0 on data brokers who sell your personal information. I spent $0 supporting Meta & Google which earn billions of dollars annually off of unchecked fraud and scams, supports CSAM websites with ad placements, and seeks to addict and manipulate people of all ages. I spent $0 on targeted ads abusing your sensitive data. This campaign didn't run a single attack ad." 😍
@cookiesinheaven That is funny. Little glutton she was.
@firefly @cookiesinheaven It happens to the best of us.
It's called "Artificial Intelligence", but how intelligent is it to crawl our catalogue, millions of pages, over and over again, instead of using our regular file dumps? "AI" is in so many ways just immense brute force, the opposite of intellgence.
Buckle up and hide your kids, its about to be an extra bumpy 2 years.
@paul he chose Miller because he thinks he will be 25th Amendment repellant
@mike I just watched the presser. Impressive AF! Not just the usual suspects (prime minister, premier and mayor) present but Chipman and Thompson from TNSE in the background and directly in the mix. This bodes well with the big private money involved along with public funding.
@graand Thompson, never shows his face in public. This must actually be major investment from the private sector as well.
