After the disastrous showing by Republicans this midterms, Marco Rubio is reportedly considering resigning from his post as Secretary of State and White House National Security Advisor. According to The Independent, Rubio is weighing stepping down to distance himself from the Trump administration.

“Good riddance,” says Manolo De Los Santos.

@manolo_realengo explains why Rubio’s resignation would signal a win for Cuba, Latin America, and the world.

@fesshole You are the human person of the dog with the Magic Pie Tree.

In one chat I was enjoying the sight of global tech stocks plunging in value. Someone said I shouldn't be laughing, and should check my own stock portfolio before I enjoy this any more.

Damn they were right, I'm almost out of chicken stock. Will need to buy some more before I make dinner.

We shouldn’t be forced to use toxic platforms that track and profile us in order to get public information.

Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube track and profile their users so that they can target advertising towards them.

Their business models fuel online harms by pushing more and more extreme content to users. Despite this, these platforms are one of the primary ways that government departments share public information.

Tell your MP to support the EDM calling on the UK Government to ensure that all public sector social media content is published on open, decentralised and federated platforms!

Now here is the other "little" thing. "His" Supreme Court doesn't follow all of his orders. Which is unacceptable to him. Will his pressure force one or two of the more conservative judges to step back? I mean, they do care about their place in history. Thing is: if they step back, new judges must be approved by the now democratic congress. #Oops.

Wow I take a day away from tech and AI stocks crash. Encore 👏 😈

@lproven I'm actually surprised they had such a long run.

When covid started I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t on Twitter or reddit or Facebook. I was in college, doing that and had a baby. We watched cartoons and when they slept I’d read and write. I had no idea until no one was on the road or at Walmart with me. I had no idea how to even get information about what was happening, so I went to the county website and found nothing. my professors stopped livestreaming and sent helpful information about it the same week so I got it.

Turned out the city had a Facebook page that people were getting their information from. And there was also a Twitter.

Then my kid gets to be school aged. The fucking school used Facebook and twitter to communicate with parents. I missed so many programs, and lacked information about everything that happened there.

Fucking hate it.

A new education and IT center is taking shape in Nairobi 🇰🇪

Currently, we're working with LEO and RealStars on a hybrid education and IT center in Kibera, Nairobi. The main idea behind it was to provide high-quality IT setup and entrepreneurship training that’s actually accessible for people living there, on site and online without leaving their neighborhood. We've written up the background of this long-term project here in case you want to get more details: https://www.hetzner.com/blog/ein-lernzentrum-fuer-neue-perspektiven-in-kibera/

“The most fascinating ephemeral game is Majestic, an experimental, X-Files-inspired alternate reality game about the chaos of the information age that ran for less than a year before its publisher pulled the plug. Majestic still stands as one of the most ambitious interactive entertainment projects ever undertaken. Intended as a personalized ongoing event for adult audiences that didn’t enjoy gaming’s typical epic-sized power fantasies, the game might have heralded a new direction for the entire medium had it succeeded. Instead, it imploded almost immediately.

“We can’t play Majestic now, so from a slew of articles and anecdotes, I’ve tried to assemble its history and offer a glimpse of what it was, why it failed, and what it could have been.”

https://obscuritory.com/other/majestic/

The article doesn’t really mention it, but I was intrigued to see that several of the media storage boxes in their photos were labeled “MAJESTIC.”

Majestic was an extremely short-lived (launched and canceled within a few months in 2001-2002) early online game from EA that remains among the weirdest gaming experiences I have ever had

“My name is Jim Vessella and I’m a Senior Producer with the EA Partners team at Electronic Arts.

“I’ve been making games now for over 20 years, and like many of you, I’ve been a devoted gamer since I was a little kid. Many of my favorite games, including the ones that inspired me to become a game developer, are from the 1990s.

“But as the years go by, the games industry is realizing that many of these classic games are becoming harder to access. So when an opportunity presented itself here at EA to make a positive impact on game preservation, several of us jumped at the chance.“

@purplepadma

Yeah. I can see that. But wouldn't it be better from a file management perspective to go YYYY/MM/DD?

In all cases, I'm happy with my system and it works. Happy 11/6 or 6/11 to you.
