Made a thing. Fedigest is a self-hosted site where you pick posts from anywhere in the threadiverse, write a few lines about why they’re worth reading, and publish them as one front page.

Comments are pulled live from the original thread. Want to vote or reply? Enter your home instance once, it gets saved in your browser, and from then on every post takes you straight to the same post on your own instance. It can also follow communities and add new posts automatically.

Comes with 15 themes (light/dark pairs follow your device, and there’s a terminal one with an old PC font), and you can make your own with a live preview.

Runs as one Docker container, SQLite inside. Still early, version 0.1.3. Built with help from an LLM.

Feedback welcome.

@flicker Pixel 6 and 6 Pro definitely aren't getting Android 17 QPR2 and will likely won't receive a monthly security update. However, it hasn't been missed yet so it can't yet be stated that they're clearly end-of-life. In some cases, Pixels have received security updates past end-of-life but never major updates.

It isn't clear if Android 17 QPR2 is coming out in November or December. It was expected to be December which is the usual date but we increasingly think it's coming out this month.

@mike welcome back!

@hacks4pancakes It's a crazy dated take, from the data I'm seeing. Not that air gap isn't a technique in some places, but it's not a security strategy anymore.

@paul such a shame that tanked his presidential run. I thought it was hilarious but also awesome

@AbandonedAmerica people talk about the Harambee thing as when this timeline diverged (and in short, ugh), but there's a case to be made that it happened when we wrote off Dean for showing enthusiasm.

@kauer Cool, I buy these arguments. (And I am always aware of (a) and if (b) ever happens to my password manager then I’m toast even if if I use private keys.)

@georgetakei Can he stand trial on all of the corruption now that he’s just a citizen? Please?!

I don’t think Schumer deserves any significant credit for the electoral gains made by Democrats this year. Indeed, I believe the work of grassroots activists across the country made the real difference. 2/

Ok tuned in for the start of the second. Looks like the Jets have learned how to score again. Although they're not exactly on the Florida death tour anymore either #hnom #NHLJets

@flicker We plan to port those to 6.18 despite their update guarantee being over. It's going to be easier to have all the devices on 6.18 to fully get rid of the 6.1, 6.6 and 6.12 branches. We're tired of maintaining 4 kernel branches and dealing with kernel branches which are so much different than the current LTS branch. There's more work to do after we get everything on 6.18 but it will be massive progress.

Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are also not really officially EOL but rather the guarantee ended.
