This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.

Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).

What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.

Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.

Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.

Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.

Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.

If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.

I hope we all have fun. Cheers!

As it's my birthday today, I always have a little moment of reflection & gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who follows, supports, comments and purchases my photography. I'm proud of what I've created with Tube Mapper and love sharing it with you all!

Many thanks 😊

I did not know that not only did Democrats win big in Georgia, they also won ALL the statewide races they were on in Georgia, and ALL those democratic winners were women, and ALL of them were Black.

Georgia elected ALL. Democratic. Black. Women.

Yes. YEEEESSS!!! Georgia, no pressure, but you need to SHINE for the rest of the country now. Everyone else, PAY ATTENTION!! :D

@aesthr @datarama ok... why is it annoying? It touches on the topic you brought up very directly. Real world consequences and all that.

Anyway, consider your request fulfilled, done with the topic either way.

@tubemapper happy birthday! Thanks for spreading a very unique bit of joy into the world.

Hi. You must get the Mastodon API post id either from a timeline or by using search on the real post id.

The gory details: Mastodon-API-compatible ids are simulated in #snac by concatenating the object creation time (ctime) and the md5 of the real post id (see the function mastoapi_id() in mastoapi.c for more details).

Hope it helps.

New, from me:

Several staffers at the White House are using computers or mobile devices equipped with residential proxy services that render their internet address available for others to rent, security experts warned today. One of the proxy services is a Russian company whose founder’s web hosting business was ground zero for cyberattacks against election systems in Arizona and Illinois in 2016.

never speak to me or my small hadron collider ever again

Could I have said all this before the election, and maybe swayed a few votes?

Hmmmm....I have said it before. And no, I'm not going to sway any votes with my 'quiet public' posts on Mastodon.

I express how I can, when I can, without any expectation that anyone will care at all.

However, I do feel the need, from time to time, to remind folks who might be following me that Trans folks need our support and protection. And that we need them! They are amazing!

We need to remember that.

Yes! I am a feminist!

Some years ago, I mentioned off-hand to my oldest that "Trans women are women".

She seemed surprised. I think that was one of the few moments when my kid actually was impressed with me. That was a really nice feeling, and I wasn't expecting it.

Any way, why do I, a mature cis-het white woman care about Trans rights?

Because people are people! All people deserve human rights and dignity and JOY!

We must defend and protect our Trans sisters and brothers.

We must!

@joneum wow! this is a very neat idea. Is this something we could turn into a CLI helper for porters?

I'd love to have a precommit hook that can tell me "did you know there are X unmentioned CVEs for this port/project?"

And why are super creepy old men spending millions of dollars on ad campaigns across the country to trick people into thinking that inspecting the genitals of every girl who wants to play sports is somehow protecting them?

Trans kids are not a problem, at all! Trans kids are amazing!

Creepy old dudes who are pedophiles are the problem.

Let's all remember this: creepy dudes wanting to inspects children's genitalia is the problem!

Wait! Are they inspecting boy's too? Nope. Just little girls

This is some comfy music to wake up to :3

Lol, the cons wanted to make Mamdani the dark Other, the face of the Democratic threat, but then Trump fell in love with him.
