Did anyone know anybody in Sydney?
@futzle I haven’t drowned yet
Holy shit.
This guy takes a couple of minutes of audio from a security camera anywhere in the US, with no clues from the video whatsoever, and finds the exact spot where it was recorded.
How?
By correlating the Doppler curve sounds from two almost inaudible planes passing by with public ADS-B flight data.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UytYrhYLOKI (29 min)
I think this is the #OSINT video of the year.
I discovered a sound that leaks your exact location (and it's everywhere)
YouTube
@scy but, if you have the audio from two cameras, which are presumably fixed in position, then you have already narrowed the area down quite a lot.
Switch has 40 times the Game Boy’s pixels; battery ratings need a model number

So it I had it more or less confirmed that both National & Labour forced NZ into the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA, or stupidly renamed 'CPTPPA') because both parties have influential MPs affiliated with the Atlas Network (the same awful folks who founded the ACT party, the TPU, FSU, NZ Initiative, & Curia Polls), whose agents/lawyers in the US wrote the agreement. In doing so, NZ gave up most of our sovereignty to US Corporations.
#Emacs turns 50 this autumn:

(thanks to Sacha Chua for spreading the Link in her Emacs News: https://emacs.news )
@ArneBab
Ich fange damit nicht mehr an. Bin halt in vim drin, aber: ist emacs noch slop frei?
one thing i find a bit fascinating is that, presumably because of being trained on a lot of news, google translate tends to do certain proper names by giving their actual name and then providing a translation in parentheses
like, i saw a comment on a video in japanese:
NHKのみんなのうたで流すべき曲
(NHK no "minna no uta" de nagasu-beki kyoku)
"minna no uta" is, apparently, a program on japan's public broadcaster, NHK, where they play music, usually for children, and the name literally translates to "everyone's songs"
and the translation google provided is:
Songs that should be played on NHK's Minna no Uta (Everyone's Songs)
i also saw a similar thing when i was tossing german political social media posts into it, where mentions of specific government agencies would be provided first with their proper name in german, and then the translation in english

This is the kind of funding the Fediverse actually needs. Better tools are great, but without people making things worth watching or listening to, we’re just building increasingly elegant infrastructure for arguing about infrastructure. Pairing creators with developers is a genuinely smart move.
@gabboman@gabboman.xyz
i'm guessing you wanna turn it into an option now? 😜

I have a better idea

Yes according to some people, but what apps do you use to not have the issue?
Because I’m mostly on the Fediverse on my mobile phone…
Ah, that's where I can't help I guess, as someone who doesn't use mobile apps.

Well just know that the professionalism with which you are handling this situation has shown your good character to people like me, who have not heard of your work before. It made me want to go check out your site and articles now.

There’s a few cross folk in here, whose comments (I can’t pretend don’t hurt a bit!) do disagree. I’ll just have to have a think how I share on here going forward. The last thing I want to do is annoy anyone, but it takes a user all of 2 seconds to click on my profile here and see I’m deeply invested in the fediverse and have been on Lemmy for years now.
I appreciate your comment, thank you for saying so!

In that case, have at it!
And thank you so much, what a kind comment to find :)

@gregeganSF Or they could all be The Johns.
@kibcol1049 is there any good and simple tutorial on how to add content to #openstreetmaps?

Oh my Gosh. Okay, this is me!
One creator I enjoy and follow on the Fediverse is Gardiner Bryant as his content is really enjoyable.
First off, thank you so much! Really appreciate you enjoying the articles we put out 😊 One think I might emphasize here though is that so far as the site goes, Gardiner and I are partners! This is one of my articles though (so I’m to blame for this appearing so often in your feed). In fact I’m 99.99% sure Gardiner doesn’t actually share his articles on Lemmy at all.
I’m sorry it appears like this. It used to annoy me back when I was regularly on Reddit, when a post was cross-posted to a different community I’d have to follow that link, read their description of the post, then follow the link then go back a few steps to start/join the discussion in that community. Since joining Lemmy and sharing here (it has been a long time!) I just went against that grain and posted in the communities it was relevant to, to give each community a space to chat about it.
I had no idea your app was showing it this way, or that how I was doing this was annoying anyone. I’ll just go back to the age old cross-post method instead, going forward. Interesting that your app shows it this way, the one I use seems to do that for me.
Sorry to annoy you! It won’t happen going forward :)

Goodreads removed RSS and some people are asking for alternatives on Reddit; maybe worth pointing to BookWyrm and NeoDB?
Goodreads removed RSS and some people are asking for... #fediverse #goodreads #bookwyrm #neodb #rssfeeds
Both fediverse softwares that support user reviews for books, both have RSS support natively (no Piefed/Misskey bridge needed), and some comments also seem discontent with Amazon's mismanagement overall.
