This is likely why intentional movement has mainly felt like punishment for me. Before the aha moment, basically all intentional movement, mostly forced by other people growing up (thanks P.E., thanks mom), was for external purposes like losing weight 😭 or a required school thing. And in the little years, psychological safety absolutely made me not feel physically safe to fall or get scraped up. Poor little me! It's so sad for a child to not enjoy movement & to be faced with such external & societal pressures. NO WONDER DEMAND AVOIDANCE!
So now, at age 34, I'm finally equipped to purposefully dismantle all this & rebuild my relationship w movement. I wish it didn't happen this way. I wish as a little neurodivergent person, my caretakers had enough insight or ability to encourage & support me in ways that led to happy movement, happy physical discovery, less societal pressures, less sensory overwhelm, more acceptance & positive encouragement instead of external pressure & demand.
