Back in the day, there were two kinds of white men in the american South.
The rich rode on horses all day. Their holdings were vast, and they needed to cover a lot of ground in order to keep up with everything. They wore wide brimmed hats to keep the sun out of their eyes.
The poor worked stoop labor. Picking cotton and tobacco meant that the backs of their necks would be exposed to the sun all day. These ‘red necks’ were little better than the slaves.
If you were on a horse, you were looking down on most other people.

I’m torn. I do want you to care, because people like you with your head in the right place not caring may have contributed to politics getting to the place it is.

I tried my best to convey the experience, but I admit I may have gone too far in some places.
i also don't know javascript or typescript, so I can't contribute.
i think feed customization is kinda important to the Fediverse ethos, but I suppose the same is true for leaving out features.
(i.e I think it's unfair to talk smack about minimalist projects like SNAC or GoToSocial for not implementing Misskey's expanded version of markdown)

@Rob_T_Firefly Doing this I really felt I understood what it is to be an artist. I don't mean artist in a highfalutin way, but that I didn't have a choice but to make this, it appeared in my head and I had to follow the logic and do it, because 80% of my brain was already working on it.

Instead of layered protections, in the US we have layered precarity, and I think the actual experience of that - the life threatening and choice removing framework that then surrounds whatever livable context you have- is not well understood
wide-scale thriving and public supports ENABLE mass demand for change
which truly is WHY we don't have those supports, at least from the perspective of those who invest fortunes in political agendas to undermine worker and family safety
