@stux I grew up in a not-quite-THAT-bad-politically area and the distance provided by time has given me so much to think about.
Like, yes, I used to be on the wrong side of a lot of stuff I shouldn't have been because that was the environment and I didn't know better, but now I see some people who used to be tolerable at worst, even by today's standards, deviating towards cartoon levels of evil, and it's sad in so many ways.
@stux
Turns out Carlo Cipolla and Dietrich Bonhoeffer were right about stupid people being a bigger danger than evil people
@stux and those people are voting, so the rest of us (the sane ones) also need to vote.
The far right is a cultivated form of stupidity.
Billionaires spend enormous sums growing the stupidity.
Koch Network leverages racism to attack public education & health. It spent millions to sabotage women's unions like public services, teachers & nurses.
Trump wants to deprofessionalize nursing & teaching to remove access to student loans. The low wages in both jobs create severe labor shortages in schools & hospitals.
Algorithmic wage discrimination worsens the labor shortages.
@stux As a kid, I thought they were exaggerating. Like who would be insane enough to follow through, but God I was wrong
@stux they are also trolling.
@appassionato that ginger kid, yes thats 100% me
that Trumpet dollar however is not something i would ever touch
yiiiikes
@stux the 'ha ha, only kidding' is still a big part of the recruitment funnel - every 30-something that says "gas the ..." In a COD chatroom 'ironically' normalizes that shit to the 14 year olds watching.
@stux Disappointing ain't it?
@stux There's always someone willing to buy an aircastle or a bridge which doesn't exist...
@stux
Just prior to my own awakening in 2004 about underestimating the depth of right wing stupidity, I remember saying to someone, "There's no way people are going to be stupid enough to vote for Bush a second time!"
