i missed the old internet, so i built a 1996 chat room.
not servers. not channels. a room. you walk in, strangers are mid-conversation about a tape deck, somebody says "a/s/l" unironically.
no account, no app, no algorithm. just pick a screen name and go. Late Night is best after eleven.

99,76% counted: Lula wins! Congratulations, Brasil :)
The sound quality on the Tubi version of tonight's #monsterdon movie is really quite overcompressed and as a result rather poor. If you have time, maybe visit another source, like archive dot org perhaps.
What’s wrong with this? Wrong answers only.

None of them miss the ads? Weird.
As for the NSFW, I don’t blame most instance admins for banning it. There IS an NSFW instance, and .world allows softcore stuff. On the actual NSFW instance, there are a few users who post fauxbait exclusively. That is to say, adult women who try to make themselves look like teenagers/prepubescent children. No ink, no piercings, waxed genitals, and completely or nearly flat-chested. Sure, there are legitimate adult women who fit some of those, but do they also wear their hair in pigtails, clutch stuffies or a blankie, or other childlike behaviour? Generally no. I saw an interview with a very interesting young lady who looks 10 or 11 but is in her 20s, and she fights every day to be recognised as a valid adult. I think there are a few people who have illegal content on their drives and they are very careful about what they actually post, and maybe some illegal stuff does get through… IMO, they make the entire NSFW scene look bad, and they are the reason for the ‘censorship’.
This time Subcommander T'Pol can't go below warp 5 or the core will explode yet they make a genetic duplicate in order to harvest their brain parts.
@foolishowl @rowan for me, as a living war baby survivor - all the UN does is let crimes against humanity be documented but rarely ever truly prosecuted/rarely grant justice over so much injustices. It helps a lot of people feel better about recognizing human rights violations while permitting more human rights abuses to continue because there is no true enforcement these days. It's a shitass bandaid on global wounds. The most marginalized global citizens never stopped suffering while people in suits convene to discuss past/current suffering without helping much at all.
@foolishowl @rowan
This is an ongoing battle for justice, going on multiple generations for our family now. This is personal for us.

Most of the UI complaints can be solved by using a different front-end. I guess that should be emphasized more when trying to convince people to try it. If any of those people never used old.reddit, I doubt they’ll like reddit either if that was the interface.
Only in torture nation could weed be mostly legal nationwide but hemp become federally banned for all to force the red states to go back to smoking that oregano ditch weed during S.A.D. times in December LMAO fuck off
@root there's a visual novel on my list of well-written ones that takes place in like the 2030s in not-england and one of the plot points is that marijuana has been legalized and then un-legalized several times

The Fediverse does require a little effort, as there is no algorithm spoonfeeding you content. Personally, I like that the barrier of entry requires some human effort as it feels like a natural filter for the sorts of elements we don’t want integrating here from platforms like Reddit.
I love to read books but sometimes after I've finished one I get all executive dysfunction-y about starting another one and I hate that.
Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Cowboy Boots Cat Pin. This is why you should always check your boots before putting them on. There could be a cat snoozing in there. Even if you don't have a cat, they'll still find a way.

@lowqualityfacts don't you mean Meowboy Boots?
@GramrgednAngel Oh, read down the thread, but in short form: a 19th century pudding (in the UK sense) dessert.
@moira I must have missed it! TY

I think it’s the default as “active” that screws people up. They think it’s stale because they’ve probably not seen any new content for hours.

This is completely bananas to me, given the Reddit UI…
