@ben Have you considered that this is a fantasy game that doesn't have to have grounding in the realities of modern food production?
@Vordus I mean it's just as easy to swap out trout for another fish at around the same level
@Vordus now I need to figure out whether every fish in runescape is fresh or salt

@mayorbeetles they flat out told us that kissing gives a part of yourself away that you'll never get back.
abstinence only is abuse.

Sometimes I think about being pulled aside as a kid for criticizing abstinence only/purity culture in schools and being told “look, we’re just trying to prevent kids from having sex.” I guess they thought letting me on the “secret” would get me on their side, but all it taught me is that mfers will literally scream until their face is red and bring themselves to tears over some shit they don’t actually care about in order to manipulate you.
& Where was all this effort to stop pedophilia in Floyd County schools? Or is making kids too ashamed to talk about sex part of the cover up 🤔
@Vordus ok so it is saltwater fish then because I assume the parasites can't survive in saltwater because otherwise they'd spread to there

@ouguoc Sure, but that's not really the point of this. The question is: what other than a sample interval should be added here to express the differences in population sizes? I don't think this is particularly wrong. For as long as the audience does not change (eg: it's dragged into a completely different bubble) it's unlikely that the numbers will move much.
@mitsuhiko I think most scientists would tell you that's assuming the premises. 😊 The whole point of a confidence interval is it's specifically the end-result of having done a bunch of work to validate the randomness of the sample.
If what you want is some way to express to your reader "this is a small sample", I think your original graph's labels are sufficient for conveying that; think the rest of the viz was pretty excellent.
have you noticed how "innovation" became the buzzword of tech ghouls, not "invention"?
I’d like to start experimenting self-hosting with a Raspberry Pi + YunoHost, but I’m struggling to wrap my head around the security risks.
If I expose it to the internet via my home router, this could potentially put all devices on my family’s home Wi-Fi at risk.
Any security experts who can share advice on a safe setup for a beginner? 🙏
All tips and suggestions are much appreciated! #selfhosting

@wild_cube See the distribution from the Jetbrains survey: https://blog.jetbrains.com/research/2026/08/how-much-code-do-developers-really-let-agents-write/
Within AI forward companies percent AI written code is now consistently above 70% for new code, so that gives you some balance. Maybe a better cutoff could be found, but I found that to be a pretty reasonable line to draw. Happy to learn for next time I'm asking that question how you would propose to ask it.
@mitsuhiko Anyway to circle back on this, I would have
(1) linked to this info to begin with,
(2) stated your goal to gather similar information by social platforms, and most importantly
(3) disclose how you will use this info.
Because this coooould be an thumbwag poll before more rigorous study. I get that.
Buuuuht in this context on social media it looks more like politically-motivated / contrived blegh.
@ben It's cherry trout, which is essentially a salmon. So river-spawning, but saltwater adulthood.

@Perrin42 Squirrels are more forgiving than humans.
Will they've been driving me up the wall, let me tell you.
People who love using AI to code are absolutely losing their minds when AI-generated code is labelled so consumers can make a choice. What's hilarious is how they label this as "politics" because it doesn't align with their desires. If AI generated code is so great, why would anyone be afraid of it being labelled?
@ianbetteridge I don't see a lot of opposition against AI labelling by people who are pro AI. Most importantly, that's not at all the what that Twitter exchange you screenshotted is about? That's about how relationships suffer/fall apart among decisive topics such as AI and Tim's opinion that because AI in his eye is inevitable, people who shunned pro AI folks will have to reconcile their opinions later if they end up using AI anyways. At least that's my reading of this exchange.
i cringed so hard I blacked out and woke up with Internet Explorer in Wine as my default browser.
@Seirdy You know? I think Mozilla would benefit from advertising "Look how great the web still is!" not "Look how great the web used to be!".
If it was me I'd have licensed OCs from the likes of Decoder Ring Theatre or Rusty Quill to do some cross-promotion.
Then again I have no reason to believe Mozilla's aware of them... Its sad that they seem stuck in the past, despite their statements to the contrary.
