Das ist keine Nebelkerze. Ich finde es doch viel eher eine Nebelkerze zu sagen, "alles hat eine Abhängigkeit und deshalb gibt es kein konkretes Problem".
Natürlich macht es einen Unterschied, ob eine Abhängigkeit vermeidbar ist oder hinterrücks vorgeschrieben wird.
Es geht ja auch um den absichtlichen Abbau von Alternativen, die man vernünftigerweise zu null Mehrkosten mit anbieten könnte (offenes Protokoll) bzw. als wertvolle Service-Leistung (zusätzlich Filiale vor Ort).
@DopaScout Schöne Utopie, aber es wird immer Abhängigkeiten geben. Selbst eine Browseranwendung hat die Abhängigkeit Internet. Auch die Filiale vor Ort ist eine Abhängigkeit. Und so weiter...

@hacks4pancakes in 2025 the number of people on X/Twitter declaring they are from Poland increased 5x, making it 20million. But somehow I'm not seeing every adult Pole talking anything about this platform. You'd think that if it suddenly won that big, it would be noticable.

I have no statistics on Instagram, but I doubt it's different. I assume 1 in 5 user is real. You're looking at manufactured consent.

Now that the iPhone Duo is fully out, I'm a bit worried about all those wacky system UI layouts that I'll have to deal with in a year as an Android app developer when Chinese OEMs will start copying the crap out of this thing like they always inevitably do.

Users are currently at 0.01% of the installed user base. That 0.01% is itself fragmented between Sailfish, Nura, GrapheneOS, etc.
So let's say that they decide to support those. Then someone comes along saying "I've adapted BeOS for mobile. Me and my three mates are using it and not to support us is discrimination."
Where's the line here?
@dajb The line is where everybody can use it, or it's not required. That's what equitable means.
You cannot draw any other line in a just society.
If it were "a product", you can do whatever you want. But it's not. It's a public service offering.
Get your head around that instead of arguing. This isn't something to discuss, it's a fact borne out of the circumstances in which the thing was conceived.
Practically, the solution in the past has been a low tech fallback.

I'll tell you how not to fall for Ai scams - simply do not trust anyone or anything. They're all out to get you. No more contact through email or the telephone. Letters are right out. Correspondence is a lie. Unless you have a pre-agreed arrangement, no one is allowed to ask you for money. That's it now. Terminal financial velocity. Corporations and governments have had enough and they'll just have to make do with what they have already managed to plunder. If they're sad about that, well they'll just have to make it stretch. Only use their vast stores of stolen wealth sparingly so they feel the benefit. Supermarkets have to go back to selling you each item individually like down the not-super market, then prove to you it's not an nft.
That's fair.
@lowqualityfacts I think he was at Tuscon in 79, 80 something like that. He was sitting in a corner looking somewhat the worse for ware, and the hostess that year was irate because the night before someone feed him one or more silver bullets. Didn't turn out so well.

So, I’ve mentioned before that I have a site I’ve had since 1995 that I had to strip down to a single page because a Chinese company started using my name, but seems to have no interest in buying the domain.
I tell you that story only to tell you this one, I’ve been hit over 50,000 times with ai bots in the last 12 hours. They’re doing lateral path searches, like /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow, and just pounding SSH. (HP1 has been slurped, confirmed.)
Anyway, if your #server has #bandwidth limits, now is a good time to check on those.

@lxo Eu vi o Lula numa inauguração de obra pública em 2008 (eu acho), em Petrópolis. Não tem como esquecer, ele discursando e convidando os mais jovens a participar da vida pública, para, quem sabe, um dia, estar também entre os dirigentes do Brasil.
tive a sorte de participar de dois eventos em que ele esteve. um deles foi o FISL (Fórum Internacional de Software Livre) em que ele fez um discurso sensacional, histórico mesmo. não consegui conversar com ele, mas troquei algumas palavras com a digníssima então-futura-presidenta Dilma. a lucidez de ambos me impressionou sobremaneira. pena que, no terceiro mandato, lula não conseguiu levar adiante o que discursou então.
lá pro meio deste ano, um conhecido meu teve uma audiência com o presidente. o conhecido é conservador, nunca foi simpatizante do lula, mas lembro de ele também ficar impressionadíssimo, entusiasmado até, com a lucidez e a sagacidade do presidente, como ele "pegava" as coisas depressa e fazia perguntas importantes.
fica a dica pra quem acredita na mentira dos mitômanos de que o presidente está velho e acabado...
