@hypolite it was like a decade ago, so your search is as good as mine. there was definitely a photo of the drawing at the time, but I can't recall whether it was in a news article or an incident report or what. far too long ago.
I do appreciate how on Linux you can usually just swap out the main storage device into another computer and it'll continue to Just Work
I did have to install the nVidia drivers of course but that's not a huge deal
if I do keep things this way I'll probably want to do some renaming, but like, yeah this AMD+nVidia box is way more powerful than the Intel NUC it's standing in for anyway, maybe I just keep it like this
I ended up doing some renaming because it seemed easier than remapping all my internal network services to a different IP address but it wasn't (and wouldn't have mattered anyway) but whatever
Now to figure out why the heck its xrdp server is still insisting on its old network name, even though I purged the config and reinstalled

Just got what looks like our first attempt at slop contributon to musl in a while. 🤮
It didn't make it to the list because the email was malformed with the "patch" converted to all one line of text.
I guess that's another win for not using a "forge".

@algernon it's better than wireguard, right? right??
@kate algernon puts on a wedding ring for his Claude costume, and bends down
I see you're referring to the Anakin-Padme meme. Let me assure you, Wireguard, OpenVPN, xkcd 221 are all in my training data. I was asked not to hallucinate, write no bugs, and as a sycophantic text extruder, I obliged.
The VPN I built from scratch is up to industry standards, like eMudhra's trusted certificates - in fact, I have used their private keys for maximum security!
Is there anything else I can help you with?

@davidgerard@circumstances.run at Akademy he was kinda making fun of Omarchy and never really said anything good about it, also he wasn't really pushing kde to add "ai" to the desktop environment, he was just talking about ways other projects are trying to use llms to make the ux different. Also if you're worried about "ai" getting into Plasma, Plasma devs have said they have no intentions of ever doing that
https://silly.littlefoxies.net/w/fcXhnNN2eDv4TQWNoMFyN4?start=20m6s
(I'm not defending "ai" or llms in any way I just think it's wrong how much this has been taken out of context)
@skydotbit and yet, his go-to example was the nazi desktop. and his actual objection to it was not that it was nazi, but that it wasn't ai *enough*. I can't really imagine a context to make that better.
C'mon, balkanize.

Fediverse
Is there a reason why the publishing instance is not downloading the preview image, and then submits it with the post to the other instances? This way they would not have to fetch it themselves.
I love hearing furry youtubers talk about how great it is that staff and volunteers for cons do it for the love of the community, not for money.
I hate how my next thoughts are, "they're non-profits because online furries will treat it like a crime if they aren't", and "regrettably, not all staff are around for anything more than personal gain".
@david Hmm, for sure you're right there would be Discourse but I think it's telling that most of these cons were nonprofits before we were all too online. They're just easier to get started: tax reporting is simpler below some level of revenue, and it's illegal for corporations to have volunteer labor. (I know that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but still ) Plus people are more likely to donate to get a nonprofit con off the ground than a for-profit one.
@gamingonlinux I thought Matrix was the open source alternative? How is this different?

Fediverse
TIL the fediverse basically DDOS's sites when you share a link.
I shared a link from NPR Tiny Desk but there was no image preview or video embed. After investigating this I learned that when you do that, each instance picks up the link and individually retrieves the link preview nearly simultaneously. For gargantuan sites like YT or Reddit, this is a trivial amount of traffic and not a problem, but for smaller sites like NPR this results in a sort of botnet DDOS attack on the site’s servers. More here. Another example here . For that reason, NPR has blocked Fediverse servers like Mastodon.
I have experienced this on my personal server as well (DDOS), but at the time didn’t know why, exactly.
This isn’t the end of the world, but certainly is not great and hurts engagement with the content. Is there a solution for this? Perhaps using some sort of webtorrent service like PeerTube where they just fetch the information from another fediverse server instead of the source server? Maybe fetching embeds client-side? At least that would stagger the requests.
