Only a human can make a screw-up this funny. In future when everything has been through the digestive tract of 4 LLMs, the minimum change size is 500 lines of code justified by 5000 words of impenetrable waffle, the comedy of errors will be dead
@sinbad well… depends how often the lollums have visited https://xkcd.com/221/ during training!
The SNP is set to welcome the approval of new fossil fuel drilling with open arms.
Swinney is going to back Andy Burnham in playing fast and loose with our climate just to cosy up to fossil fuel billionaires.
We are in a climate emergency; it's about time that both our governments act like it.
Blommor vid havet.
Looking for a "Senior Software Engineer"-like position, based in Seattle, WA, remote preferred.
20+ years in role, the majority is in C/C++, but I've done server and Android-hosted Java, Python, Bash Perl, etc.
Outside of work I've led the open source game development project Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead since 2012, I grew it from a single contributor (me) to 50+ active contributors, not including ancillary teams like translation and art production.

how difficult is it to understand that there's no profit on an uninhabitable planet?
Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is still stonewalling UK staff's unionization effort, dragging their feet on negotiations. The Foundation's attempt to reduce the size of the bargaining unit is now heading to arbitration:
well that fucks my schedule https://arstechnica.com/security/2026/10/php-maintainers-tell-web-devs-to-prepare-themselves-for-critical-security-patches/
remote hole in wordpress, release this afternoon
i need to get my new box up IMMEDIATELY then
fuckin
@bvibber from mediawiki posted that it was *that* bad, i'll take brooke's word for it
@davidgerard @bvibber I had to just turn PHP on my server off because the time between patch release and me getting home to manage a proper patching is over 2 HOURS (thanks for releasing it during my shift lads, really nice of ya)
It's going to be a struggle to keep this next video under 30 minutes without, y'know, just talking faster. 😝
Though, since the topic is the software industry's competency crisis, it might end up being on the relevant side of current events.

"We can't get the power we need" sounds so much better than "This AI datacenter thing might not be worth it" #SarcasmButOnlyHalf
@jwildeboer sounds better perhaps - it still spooks the markets. - once they look at the financial consequences for these overstretched and over hyped AI related companies and vSPVs -
Witness the reaction to Oracle's claimed "Force Majeure" and now NextDC in Austalia who have been equally brought low by power supply issues.

Fediverse
TIL the fediverse basically DDOS's sites when you share a link.
I shared a link from NPR Tiny Desk but there was no image preview or video embed. After investigating this I learned that when you do that, each instance picks up the link and individually retrieves the link preview nearly simultaneously. For gargantuan sites like YT or Reddit, this is a trivial amount of traffic and not a problem, but for smaller sites like NPR this results in a sort of botnet DDOS attack on the site’s servers. More here. Another example here . For that reason, NPR has blocked Fediverse servers like Mastodon.
I have experienced this on my personal server as well (DDOS), but at the time didn’t know why, exactly.
This isn’t the end of the world, but certainly is not great and hurts engagement with the content. Is there a solution for this? Perhaps using some sort of webtorrent service like PeerTube where they just fetch the information from another fediverse server instead of the source server? Maybe fetching embeds client-side? At least that would stagger the requests.
Naa tankies are just as bad. You excuse the invasion of Ukraine by russia and all the other countries russia wants to attack… looking like Latvia is next on putins list, and I’m sure you’ll suggest they deserve it as well. You’re just as war mongering as maga is.
so the singularity is when one guy owns everything and there is just one company?
@futurebird This was an interesting comment I read earlier today: https://mstdn.social/@noelreports/117477920828990036 @davidgerard
Is this actually the first time ever that a TLS root is being revoked? Like how is everything bundled everywhere and doesn't handle revocations properly. SSL is 32 years old.

@ScottishGreens
So Burnham's ruse to delay this decision til after the Holborn and St Pancras by-election paid off, exactly as predicted.
Labour has lost none of its authoritarian neoliberal credentials with the removal of Starmer.
