Headhunted 12 years ago. Board said to finalise contract with legal. Asked for clause giving me ten years' salary if made redundant. It was so specialised at the time, redundancy was next to impossible, so it was amazingly included. Now AI makes it very possible. Fingers crossed.
@fesshole ooo that's something to keep in mind.
The feathers have returned. Mr. Homn said nothing, naturally, but I'm quite sure that was relief I saw in his eyebrows. Life is far too short for beige, darlings. #LwaxanaTroi #BackInColor #AllStarTrek #StarTrek #StarTrekTNG #TNG #StarTrekDS9 #DS9 #Mastodon
@gzt I see your RFK Jr. and raise you Pete Hegseth.
@gedvondur he's awful but he's kind of normalish bounds of awfulness -- of course he has to be impeached and removed, though

Some interesting alternative science here, "powered" by "AI", it seems.
Besides the ChatGPT-style chemistry that @bnuuy has already elaborated on, there's also the ChatGPT-style version of the Pythagorean theorem.
type of guy who abbreviates it "cumul" to avoid seeing just "cum"

@pkal @mcc @tusharhero @technomancy I didn't make that argument, and I am not replying to the library here and how it works. I am replying to Eli's argument specifically.
@cwebber @mcc @tusharhero @technomancy In that case sorry, I will re-read the conversation.

> have been banned from going
tbhs if being banned deters u from going to a protest u are missing the point, which is to disobey and push back against the authority handing out those bans
@hsza @LunaDragofelis There have been judgements without trials and if you don't respect it you can get jailed. Many people even got curfews or detention in awful conditions.
I guess it stops many folks from attending again. We have to be careful with what we post to avoid having the cops home at 6am now...
I think some parents are probably telling their children not to go for their safety, and injured folks probably can't join either.
I'd go if I physically could
Occasional reminder that Nicki Minaj cannot vote in the US. Neither can her husband or brother.
- She isn't a citizen
- Her brother is doing 25 - life for committing the GOP's favorite pastime with a child
- Her husband is a registered sex offender
The latest MAGA spokesperson, everyone!
@chartier no joke I had to go look to see if she was the new press secretary.

@cwebber @mcc @tusharhero @technomancy This argument assumes that LLMs can only generate code because code was part of their training data, which I understand not to be the case, considering how you can supply an LLM with the specification of an new, made-up language, and it can still generate code for it. And anyway, in this case the LLM was used to transpile C++ to Elisp while running it against existing tests, which is a different situation that just generating code from scratch.

@jaystephens In general we use dice, with each member of the audit team contributing rolls.
@mattblaze @jaystephens So -- just to check if I have the right idea here -- suppose you were doing this in a case where the margin was about 1%. I would expect the number of ballots you would have to randomly select would be of order 10,000. Am I in the right ballpark?
Marcy Wheeler offers some pushback on the “dump Hakeem Jeffries” movement. She’s a sharp observer who’s been at this for a long time, and I think her logic here is sound, even if I don’t agree with every single point.
@jalefkowit You've convinced me that Jefferies should stay.
But Schumer ... oy, what a tool. Still think he needs to go.
