google slides will let you use your pencil to draw free-hand art... but only if you use the desktop web version ...you know, for your desktop device with no pencil!
if you have the ipad app... the app for your device which *does* have a pencil... apparently you can get fucked! no draw mode for you!
i simply do not understand anyone who entered tech after about 2005. their thought processes are a mystery to me
@robey well see there are different teams and the ux researcher was given a limited remit and only attached to the desktop team, and iOS is half skunkworks because it is neglected and....

@jerojasro same as for everyone else really. Plain text based formats are easy to manage in version control and easy to automate. Psychology often contains a lot of statistics so equation typesetting is common, even if not to the extent as in pure mathematics. I have R code that I automatically append in an appendix while keeping my TOC up to date. Bibtex is great for managing citations. Language-correct quotation marks with babel and csquotes is a feature I rely on a lot.
@jerojasro and most of all reliability. I can be sure that if I compile my PDFs again after making some changes, that the formatting will not randomly glitch out the way Word often does and that the same source will always produce the same PDF.

Something weird has been happening to me today. I've had several small flashes of random memories resurfacing, except almost all of them were almost locations, but not real locations. Instead, they're locations from dreams I had. Some of them a while ago. Most of them, I thought I had forgotten. Has anything like this ever happened to you?
ugh I hate how many times this pattern happens:
1. clone repo
2. make a small change
3. try to run code, fails
4. what did I do wrong? time to back out my changes one by one
5. I back them all out
6. this code never worked in the first place

@aesthr out of curiosity, what problems does LaTeX solve for you / for psy students?
While I no longer use LaTeX but Typst, I'd like to know pain points from other disciplines to better advocate for these kind of typesetting systems...
