So far, I like what’s been built here. There are a few things I’d change, but they’re not dealbreakers. My main concern is the voting system and how it works. Otherwise, Lemmy seems like a solid option. I’m not sure how much voting can be disabled or changed on an instance.

I’m considering either hosting a Lemmy instance for nightash.net, where I currently run a traditional forum, or building something closer to the architecture I described here .

I’d appreciate feedback, especially from people who might be interested in using it.

Also: holy shit dplyr is slow sometimes

I stripped out all the convenience stuff I used it for in places that churned through a lot of data and replaced it with base R code and I gained orders of magnitude in speed

Be careful when you use it

I suddenly understand why so many supervillains are scientists who snapped one day.

Hmm, keyboard spontaneously typing (gobbeldygook) on the work laptop. Gremlins? 👀

Does anyone still use Yelp?

@Mrfunkedude You just had it. Good morning.

@spawnie my ceiling is ~125wpm, on all of QWERTY, Dvorak, and a slightly modified Engram. The layout didn't help much, stayed in the same ballpark.

My advice would be to learn steno - it's a steep curve, but that gets you way above regular typing speed. It's also quite fun to build your own steno dictionary, once you're past the initial hurdles.

@futurebird I am somewhat saddened to think it was predominantly financial issues that swayed opinion. You'd think someone being an absolutely horrible person acting in an entirely lawless manner, supported by grifting syncophants and hate-mongers, would be enough in itself.

@spocko Love me some Trek.

NEW: Despite a legal requirement to do so, Vermont never audited a water project that’s cost nearly a billion.

“I find it amazing that they haven’t done the audit and that somebody in the legislature did not hold them to account,” said a former lawmaker.

Hey is #ClassicalMusic Mastodon a thing? If you're a classical music aficionado I want to know your favourite *idiosyncratic* recordings of classical music. Anything with unusual instrumentation or arrangement or recording set-ups or anything about it that sets it apart from a straightforward completely faithful performance.
