@xgranade @Canageek I'm also not sure that the engineers that work on pacemaker hardware have personal liability if it malfunctions.
I don't know much about pacemakers, but I worked at a UK startup involved with automotive hardware/software (ISO 26262 certified), which arguably puts more lives at risk because of the scale, and it would be news to me that I'm personally liable for defects in the end product
@whitequark @xgranade A P. Eng. who puts their official stamp on something (Which is required for a lot of types of things before sale or construction) is legally liable for any defects in the design in Canada and the US (I can't speak to Europe or elsewhere).
The point is not to put the engineer in jail, it's to prevent employers from bullying the engineer into signing off on things that aren't safe.
@redmp I wonder if a rock scientist could identify it from a microscope image?
In fact, my brother is a rock scientist, I'll ask him.
@shapr i've heard that without knowing the location where a rock was found, you can't tell much beyond what mineral it is
Turns out SI is short for suck it!

@Jeremiah The Black governor of Florida is a Republican.
Not all Black people are Democrats. That's an unconscious bias that probably helped him win with voters of all races.

There's a 10 minute fight sequence in the film Atomic Blonde where Charlize Theron gets the absolute shit kicked out of her and then has a cold bath, takes a couple of painkillers and is basically fine. I had a little fall a week ago and honestly I can barely move. Once again Hollywood has lied to us. When will they make a realistic film? I vote me for the new James Bond. Just me, avoiding confrontation and eating sandwiches in the dark like a super spy. Where's Ben? Is he in the Kremlin? No he's in the kitchen with the lights off crying into some bread again.
@TheBreadmonkey
Oh I'll have to watch that one again. it was very good.

8/ History provides even weirder examples - From 1816 until 1920 there was a tiny (3,5 km²), wedge-shaped, neutral territory between Belgium 🇧🇪 and Germany 🇩🇪 known as Neutral Moresnet, and there was an attempt to make it the world's first Esperanto‑speaking state.
9/ A more recent, long-lived example was the Saudi Arabian–Iraqi neutral zone, which survived until the 1980s and had the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code "NT"
The territory was over 7000 square kilometers of empty desert
