When my kids were little I told them the ice cream truck was the broccoli truck. As they got older I thought they knew and it was just a cute family joke. THEY DIDN'T KNOW. They were 15 and 16 when a neighbour's kid told them. I can't stop laughing.
So, there's a brutal Gen 1 depreciation that may very well be headed your way if, you plan on upgrading the device at some point in the future, and you probably will.

In Hungary, Serbia and Brazil, ordinary people refused to give up on democracy, and they won. This Tuesday, we get our chance to do the same. https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/democracy-is-on-the-march
@georgetakei
Yep, let's make it a foursome this year!
BTW, don't forget about Sweden where a coalition supported by a far right party lost an election in early autumn.
My polling place was handing out AI slop to midterm voters.

@404mediaco So... "ai voted"?

Piefed web interface does stack comments if cross posted, so I’m guessing the poster isn’t bothering to cross post if it isn’t showing that way in Intersellar.

Is there a way to not see duplicate of the same topic across different communities?
Hi everyone!
I’m really enjoying the Fediverse through Lemmy and Peertube.
One creator I enjoy and follow on the Fediverse is Gardiner Bryant as his content is really enjoyable.
Sadly he ´s the target of my post as he shares his content on many different communities that I follow.
Today I had 5 times the same topic on RetroDeck (great project too) on my feed on Lemmy (Voyager).
It is the same on PieFed (Interstellar).
This is really annoying and I haven’t found a way to not show these duplicates. Do you know about one or is it worked on?
Also when crossposting, it would be great if everything appeared under on post. Is it feasible?
Sorry if it’s easy and I just missed it. In a way I hope it is because it would mean that the Fediverse is festure rich😇
Lots of Unix style tools (ab)use stderr for non-error output, just to avoid mixing informational bits with other things in stdout or for separating machine-processable output from what is meant for humans.
A lot of Unix ideas were based on explicitly bringing humans close to the system though, being heavily based on text.
I think the semantics of those two streams, stdout and stderr, are outdated.
Does it make sense for the OS/runtime to provide specific log levels / semantics anyway?
@CyReVolt You propose to reinvent Macintosh Programmers' Workshop from the 1980s, and Plan 9 from Bell Labs? /s
GET RIGHT OUTTA TOWN /s
@djsundog he zucked it up.
@ajroach42 @djsundog that zucker.
On #DiaDeMuertos we remember the countless precious lives of beautiful hard-working people who were killed at the hands of federal agencies like CBP and ICE. May we always remember them.
@tessaracht gotta get out to get high though :/
@tessaracht plus I need to go to my old apartment to get my glasgow interface explorer because I forgot to update my address…
Big rumours of some sort of peace deal in Iran started late Sunday. Market clearly believes them.
I’ve been thinking about the effect that air conditioning has had on US culture. Before home cooling, people had to leave the windows open in summer, sit on the front porch, be accessible to their neighbors. Family and neighborhood life was less private out of necessity.
A/C made it possible to keep windows closed and stay indoors year round. To not know who your neighbors are. A/C contributed to an isolated, atomized society.

I think it’s more of an etiquette problem than a feature problem. Posting the same thing to many different communities should be deleted as spam. The multipost in your screenshot is certainly spam. Report that.
If you are want to post something and don’t know which community fits best, or feel like multiple could fit, then just post your thing tone community. If other people find your post especially interesting, they can crosspost it. To me, cross-posting your own posts is a sign of an overinflated sense of self-importance.
Seattle cop Michael Griffin said he'd stop showing up after a store security guard asked to talk to his supervisor.
He was in the "proactive unit." That means he doesn't have to do anything. Griffin was previously suspended for being "proactive" about two DV calls. https://www.divestspd.com/p/you-dont-wanna-go-down-this-route

Zuckerberg absolutely did this to the metaverse concept, but I cannot decide if it was intentional or just another fucking fumble.
@djsundog he zucked it up.
To steal a phrase from Winston Churchill, tomorrow's election is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, hopefully, the end of the beginning.

As expected, 2-4 weeks after adopting a new breakfast routine, it has fallen apart

October's issue of "This month in KDE Linux" is out and comes with the news that the project has moved to KDE's S3-based file storage, the installer comes with a slideshow, and the system boosts performance of apps and games that require #WINE and #Proton thanks to its preloaded ntsync module.
